yea i dont even know why you would want to down shift it to low. shifting up is whats fun not going down lol. i only do it when racing or driving through deep snow.
Actually, I like to let it downshift occasionally -- with my Random Tech 2.75" exhaust the sound is awsome as I slow down and then it downshifts and you can hear the little "afterfires" rumbling. Sounds good!

you changed a lot to get where you're at. and, you paid an extra 850 for your auto a manual with the same mods walk you hard unless the driver sucks.

I didn't have to change anything in my transmission to not have to let off during shifting, that was my point

If you're driving a stick with a turbo and you don't powershift (aka let off the throttle while shifting) your going to vent boost.

who doesn't powershift their turbo car if they're racing? only someone that doesn't know how to drive

if they care that much then they wouldn't be racing. and even if they lose boost between shifts, most cars unless the turbo is huge are going to build that boost back fast as hell anyways. it doesn't really make that much of a difference either way. i just think it's a silly argument for justifying buying an auto car.

the auto runs a good 1/2 second slower than the manual. it's a big difference. also, the 4 speed sucks.

the 1/2 second slower times is most likely from the lack of 5th gear. the 4 gears are longer than the 5 gears in a manual. i would imagine, anyways.

that's exactly what it is. also, like stated, it weighs more. when you have a car putting down 12x whp, even a little extra weight will hurt performance.

lol, I'm sorry but are you serious?

The gear ratios aren't the same in a 4spd auto as a 5spd manual.

In my auto (@ redline):

1st gear - ~35mph
2nd gear - ~73mph
3rd gear - ~128mph
4th gear - ~???mph (est around 170 if it was even possible)

Hack was that a shot at me? I didnt think the manuals hit 5th on the 1/4 track. isn't the peak of their power in 4th? I didn't think the Cobalts had enough time on a 1/4 track to hit 5th

You need to stop to think about it for a second.

the manual isnt an auto with a 5th gear tacked on, ALL the gears are different.

The gears in the manual are shorter, therefore providing better acceleration.
