Question MU3 help???

Took apart the trans to replace a few parts but now that I am putting it back together, I am stuck on this one piece. The old one broke so I got a new one from the dealer and well this is where my problem lies. With the ring off the synchro sleeve will slide down on the gear no problem (like its supposed to do) but when i put the ring on it stops it. anyone have any idea or ran into this problem before and have any insight? all help would be appreciated thanks.

its the skinny one

(Edit: this is 5th gear)

fifth gear can be a tight fit on the splines, needs a good drift and a hammer assuming nothing is screwed up inside. You have installed a new crush sleeve? If not stop dont go any further as without it, re using the old one the trans will be so bad it will be coming out again....good luck

On some transmissions, there are two small spring steel clips that fit inside the 5th gear set thatI think are basically anti rattle clips, discard those; if you installed them back in they may be getting in the way. If I could get my photobucket to work i would post pictures but cannot.

adjust cables. release cable clamps place shifter in 4th gear position ( tab is there for that, release shift lever clips and place in 4th gear tab position) secure cable clamps release shifter you are done.
