if you look at it long enough it looks like the shift pattern is an elephant ... dunno why I just thought of that

Works all the same it just takes some getting used to. But since I'm assuming you are all guys you probably have bigger feet than I do, but my tiny feet are too short to do heel-toe with...at least in this car.

As far as autocross, I've never in my life had to downshift on an autocross course, but this is an essential skill if you ever go out and do a track day.
True. Autocross is usually slower and more technical. Not much shifteing there. I should have said "road course" or "track day"!

Interesting about the downshifting. I thought I read that GM specifically optimized pedal placement to allow for heel-toe downshifts. I haven't driven an SS-SC yet, but I drove the 2.4L and it was easy to heel-toe with. I have small feet too (I'm only 5'6"), so I may have to adapt a bit too.

Well, if they did they failed miserably, LOL. Or they didn't take into account varying foot sizes. I'm 5'2" and female so my shoe size is only a 7 (that'd be men's size 5 1/2 for comparison). I can ALMOST make it if I am barefoot and I curl my toe over the corner of the brake pedal but in practical conditions, no I cannot even come close to touching the gas if my toe is on the brake unless the brake is pressed way in.

The only solution I thought of is to buy the GM performance pedals (or any pedals that can be either replaced or installed over the existing pedal). What I was thinking is replace the gas and clutch pedals and install the gas pedal on top of the existing pedal, that way you raise the surface of the gas pedal slightly, that's the only thing I can think of that MIGHT work.
