no 1st, 3rd, or 5th.

so i have no 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear. I know there is some common problem with the transmission linkage or something, but ive never read about it on here very much.

i think the piece from the shifter to the linkage is my problem... im not sure.

anyone have any input on what it could be?? anything helps.

Pull the center console off and check to make sure all the cables are attached. There are 2 of them. If that's all good, check the linkage going to the tranny. Either something has come loose in one of those spots or you broke a shifter cable.

shift cable assembly needs to be replaced based on description, see if its connected or more likely snapped. Good luck, let us know what happens

Doubt it (never hurts to ask though) but I would check the roll pin at the tranny end of the cables first - nice little how to repair with pictures

The dealership did do tranny work on the car not too long ago. So if it's not warranty I'd think prob a come back on them Bc they didn't have the cables adjusted right.

My friend who owns a cobalt SS just had this happen to him about a month ago.

Little plastic piece of **** at the end of the shifter cable that moves teh selector fork back and forth breaks in half.

It can be temporarily remedied with copius amounts of duct tape and something like a splint.

According to him the fix was a 30min driveway job.

It's the roll pin. I've replaced mine about 7 times now so I'm just gonna use a size 8 bolt next time.

GM builds a full spectrum of different quality vehicles.

They build the cheap cars cheap and the pricey cars pricey.

Nothing cheap about the build quality of a Corvette or a GMC full-size pickup.

youre talking about the same corvette with plastic body panels and interior that matches a cobalt right?? and the one where they charge 105k and it falls apart as its being road tested, while the rear piece can be flexed with a good sneeze?

my balt has been pretty reliable save the one icm problem. but the clearcoat thing is pissing me off to no end. only car ive ever owned that had that problem. not even my 65 had that problem and it had a 20 year old paint job. i only bought it cause the mustangs were in a transition period and the focus was ****. so was the sentra and most other small cars i drove. was good for its time. but times have changed drastically. im still gonna drive mine till about 200k before i think of getting another car. and ill probably keep it since its paid for and cheap to drive.
