Arrow the OFFICIAL aftermarket clutch thread

ive decided to make this thread since all the info about all the diffrent types of clutches out there for our cobalts seems to be scattered. i hope this comes as a good resource for those of you trying to buy a new clutch.

if you have an upgraded clutch please post:

which car u have (lsj, lnf, le5, etc)
which clutch (brand, stage)
flywheel
how many miles on the clutch kit
how was it for driving
and weather or not u recommend the clutch and why (basically if u like it or not)

you dont have to be too specific, but just say enough so people can get the idea of what ur clutch is like so they can better judge which clutch to get.

ZZP Adjustable Clutch rod
Stock flywheel freshly machined when install was done
5000 miles on it with about 10 track launches with slicks
Great clutch for the money

Resurfaced flywheel
ZZP rod
5300 miles, first 1000 was on/off switch. now it's mellowed out some. only thing I don't like is the high engagement point.

-Once its broken in its real easy to drive and the pedal has a nice firm feel to it
-I would for sure recommend the clutch but some people might say its pricey. I have never had it slip and the thing just grips like no other.

About 6000km
It's great for driving, pretty close to stock feel.
I completely recommend it. You cannot beat it for the price and feel. Out the door the kit is $300 or so shipped which includes the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing (LNF one). I've had no hints or slip and no clutch chatter or anything negative at all in fact.

Crank in your ZZP rod to lower you engagement? Mine was like this but newt lowered it to where i like it

Heavy pedal until I go used to it. And it was on or off in the beginning.
Definitely recommend it holds power well and it is a good clutch/flywheel combo.

Yes, it is rated at 300hp but it's capable of holding much more.

all i can say is that my spec 3+ on my 2.2 held for about 1200 miles until i spun the pucks off.

5k miles
Installed by me

Clutch engaged low on the floor initially but after 1k miles is close to stock height.

Pedal pressure is slightly stiffer then stock, but not much.

I do not use a ZZP adjustable rod and don't plan on it, to me that is a band aid fix, sort of like the extended slave cylinder rods on other cars.

It took some getting use to the lighter flywheel , you have to rev the engine more to take off in 1st gear.

Car boosts/acclerates faster with aluminum flywheel in each gear, but you have more boost drop off in between the shifts.

Clutch chatter when clutch is cold and goes away after a few heat cycles.

Clutch holds the power and torque of my BNR GT2871 turbo without slipping.

If I had to do it again I would get the Spec Stage 3+ made to go on the factory flywheel and have it resurfaced.

or

I might try the Kentucky clutch next since its cheap and works with the factory flywheel.

New stock fly wheel
countless miles
taken to the track
countless digs, 40,60,80 rolls with break boosting and still holds like brand new.
I couldn't ask for a better daily clutch, after break in it fells exactly like stock.

i have the same set up but i keep blowing out tob seal. Have u had any probs ? im taking it all back apart sometime today and im going to use the stock pressure plate and flywheel ,with my spec clutch disk. i think my flywheel or pressure plate is made wrong. This will be number 6 tob thats been installed. there going out due to hyper extending. What are the odds of me getting a bad clutch or flywheel ? but over all it never slipped once.

Nope no problems at all, I just put in a factory LNF GM TOB/Slave and its been just fine.

I have an 08 cobalt sport. Full bolt ons now, but going sc as soon as I save up money for the clutch. This is my first stick car so I've never dealt with clutches before so I have some questions. I plan to only run stock pulley, and car is a DD. I won't be racing it all the time.

- I wanna get a Spec stage 2 clutch. Is spec good? Is there a better recommended clutch?

- Is it ok to use the stock flywheel, or should I get aftermarket? I hear lightweight is no good though. If stock, it must be resurfaced correct?

- Does trans fluid need to be drained when changing a clutch? If not is it recommended to change fluid anyway? Especially if I'm going sc.

- I should use Mobil1 Dexron ATF synthetic blend for the F23 right? It says on the mobile website "Mobil DEXRON-VI ATF is a high performance, synthetic blend automatic transmission fluid formulation designed to meet the stringent service fill requirements of GM’s Dexron-VI specification."

- What is TOB and do I need it? If so where do I get it?

- Clutch definitely needs to be re-bled correct? (sucks if yes I just bleed it 2 months ago what a pain in the @$$ lol)

- Do all new clutches come with an alignment tool or do I need to buy one?

Anything else I might need to know?
