Problem

Took it out to the track tonight and had some very strange occurances. First off, its about 48 degree here in Texas. Track temp was a little above that, so there was no traction, but I decided to run a few times.

The first 2 times went fine... no traction got me a 9.46 on the 1/8. Then on my 3rd time down the track, I had a problem.

I staged at about 2300 RPM, nothing different than normal. I let off the clutch a little to gain momentum, and then it happened. The engine just reved up wildely to redline, so I let off, and tried again... same thing happened. So, I shifted to 2nd... same thing... just went straight to redline. Shifted to 3rd, same damn thing. So, I just cruised to the finish... about 67MPH, then shifted to 5th to see if it would do it again... I shifted... and same thing... just reved up to redline.

It felt like the clutch wasnt grabbing anything. On a daily basis, this does not happen. This is the first time I have had this happen. Could it be just because it was cold? Or is there a problem somewhere else that is unforseen?

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

That sucks, Ive had it happen to me a couple of times... if ya come off the clutch to quick it won't grab and you just start "smoking" the clutch. It take a while (seconds) for it start grabbing again... thats if you off the throttle...

Keep an eye on it... most likely its just the way we drive...

Same thing happened to me once or twice on about the 3rd run in a row (track was empty, so I was rolling straight into the box after picking up my time slip). The clutch heats up and loses grip, just like brake fade only with the clutch, let it cool for a while and you should be alright again (btw- you just took about 1000 miles off the life of your clutch- which is why one of my major upcoming mods is a Spec stage 2).

When an organic clutch overheats, it "glazes". Which means the gripping surface has basically turned to glass, let it cool, run it easy, it'll wear back in, sans about 1/32nd of clutch surface.
