It doens't matter which kind of LSD you put in, quaife or otherwise. Its a big job. You need to completely disassemble your transmission to do it. Its a core part of the tranny, in either the auto, or the manual.

Yeah this is not a DIY job at all. I believe for a professional install it's still an 8 or 9 hour job, the tranny has to be completely torn apart like halfcent said, then the LSD has to be put in, then you have to completely reassemble the tranny back to original and hope that everything goes back right or else you're majorly screwed.

While this is technically true for the Getrag* found in the 2.2 and 2.4...
I can tell you there are more than a few pitfalls for the DIYer to consider
-I presume you transferred the ring gear to the new diffy as well?
-Did you replace the ring gear bolts as recommended by GM?
-Did transferring the VSS reluctor give you any problems?
-I guess you just decided to take a chance that the differential case bearing clearances require the same side bearing shimming despite a totally different carrier assembly? (These clearance measurements require special tools to complete, and NOT doing them under these conditions is a total crap-shoot)
But hey, anyone can get lucky

* Doing the same job on the FGP F35 used in the SS/SC is a WHOLE other story as the transaxle will nee to be completely dissassembled to remove the final drive. This requires a myriad of special tools that even most dealers wont have. (other than the very largest, and of course Saab dealers)

As a moderator, I am required to allow any post that is within the rules. So I'll let this stand and just add that this is a total over simplification of an incredibly complex job. Lets start with number 1, remove trans. Ok, that means putting the car on a lift, a fairly expensive, not the sort of thing a guy would have in his garage, tool.

Many of the members here are not mechanics. They are simply owners who want to learn more about how to modify their cars, and they don't have access to the large number of tools necessary to do this kind of work.

My point is, if you are reading this thread hoping to find some easy way of doing this job, you are going to be disappointed. Do not let someone try to fool you into thinking it will be simple or you will end up with a pile of parts on your garage floor and no idea of how to put them all back together again.

Good post 1/2!

To do this job (R&R transaxle and replace differential assem) in 5.0hrs would be more in-line with a "flat-rate" techncian's accomplishment, with all of the neccessary tools/equipment a professional techncian typically has at their disposal.

"Easy" is all relative to one's skill-set, past experience and available resources
