racing transmission

so the ss/sc and tc's use a racing transmission, just wondering if anyone knows how significant the difference in gear ratios are, from the standard getrag?

im wondering if its worthwhile to troll the junkyards and chance finding an sc racing tranny to drop in my car with new mounts.

1st off, it isn't a racing tranny per se, just different.

2nd, It has taller gears than the F23 which IMO are already too long

3rd, the bolts to the flywheel are different, f23 has 6 f 35 has 8

4th, search is you friend

I'll confirm/elaborate some of what steddy said:

1) Not remotely close to a racing tranny. Actually, LOL, it was originially designed to be used for towing, hence why 1st gear is so short.

2) Personal preference, I don't mind the F35 gearing at all. It's a 2-gear road course car which makes for easy shifting.

3) Yes, you're looking at a TON of time, money, and headaches to make it work. You're better off sticking with what you have.

4) I concur.

I'd stick with what you have. There's nothing "racing" about the f35. It's just the same stock tranny transplanted over from a SAAB 9-3.

thx for the advice. All I know is that when I get a bit more power I wouldn't mind a racier tranny. Particularly with a wider 1st gear. The first gear and clutch In my car is like its for a beginner on stick. Did you know that you can not only let out the clutch w.o gas, but u can even start it in 1st w.o stalling! LOL

On a level road you can do about 25 miles an hour without touching the gas.

Um.....ummmmmmmmmmmmmm.......EVERY street car is supposed to be like that. If it's not like that, you need a driver mod or the car isn't streetable. Did you know I could start my boyfriend's car with a Stage 3+ clutch without touching the gas? Totally normal.

I know! Haha I found that out cause I had to try it cause my my cuz's cavy was the same! And I found out u can start it in gear cause my Balt was shipped with a faulty clutch which delaminated on the highway LOL. Took me a minute to find out I had no clutch, but before that I tryes starting it again with the clutch pedal in while in first, the engine stsaryed and I started rolling! Haha ever since then, I've learned to drive without a clutch just in case! LOL

Weird. I've never been in a car that COULDN'T start in first. ****, that's how 95% of people learn how to drive a manual is how to get the car rolling with using the clutch only.

not true i accidentally started it in first gear and it stalled...especially with reverse (the stalling sounds nastier too >_<) and you cant start the car without the clutch in anyway

no i was in a parking lot. the car stalls if you dump the clutch in first. (no need to go slow if your in or going into neutral) if you want it to start going without stalling you gotta be really slow on the clutch till it fully engages. but only on level ground. hills you need to tap the gas a little
