I need to know if you should/have to change the slave cylinder when this is done??

Also does anyone know specifically what parts come with the Exedy Clutch kit??

It is always recommended to get the slave/TOB replaced when you do a cluth kit.

Also why not SPEC? You dont want to do the clutch again, save your self money in the long run, and save up a bit more and get a spec clutch....

well whats wrong with the exedy vs the spec?? i can get an exedy for 280 + w/e the slave/release bearing costs

it looks like the spec is gonna be about 480 inlcuding the slave/release

The actuator(throw bearing/slave cylinder) on the F23 is completely different than on the F35 in the SC/TC cars. Ive replaced many many F23 clutches and not even touched the actuator, I would only replace it if its leaking, damaged, or is rough. If its ok thats $70-100 saved easy. If you need it, it should be #12582666

thanks ill look into that...doing some research it appaears that the exedy clutch does not come with the throwout/slave while the spec does...that pretty much evens out the cost of both from the prices that im seeing on the net...now the question is which one is better and WHY??

depends on what the car is being used for, if it is staying stockish i would go with a exedy really becuase its like a oem clutch.

make sure you check out the spec kit and make sure its the right slave first. the 2.2/2.4l kits are the same clutch as a cavalier, and i have heard many of the aftermarket kits are comming with a cavalier slave cylender wich will not fit a cobalt.

i would highly recomend changing the slave cylender. i am a transmission tech, i wont even consider doing a clutch job if the vehicle has a concentric slave (in the bellhousing) and the customer doesnt want to change it. in the long run not changing it always bites you in the ass, its a hell of a lot of work to pull that tranny out later when its leaking, not to mention it leaking fluid onto your new clutch and ruining it. its a lot cheaper to do it now then to pay again later.

i myself would go with an exedy. the stage 1 is going to be a very street friendly clutch, the pedal feel will be the same and it wont be very grabby. basicly itll drive like a stock clutch but it will have more holding power. spec clutches are great for performance, never tried a stage 1 though. the exedy and spec stage 1 clutches will be close to the same, i dont think either will be better than the other. some venders may tell you different because they just want to sell you a spec clutch because they make more money off of it.

to be honest the only reason im even considering changing the clutch is because my cars going in for the 2nd gear synchro problem that seems to be pretty common from what ive seen on here...so i figure while they have the whole trans apart and out of the car why not have them put a new clutch in and save some serious cash on the labor but i wanna make sure i have all of the necessary parts...if i go with the exedy im going to need to get the slave/release assembly separately...is there any way you can confirm the part number posted before?? (12582666) and is there any other place i can get it besides the dealer? (i work at one and they wont even give me any kind of discount )
