Every Subaru I've driven has this feature. I had to show two of my "tuner" friends how to get an STi into reverse.

My brother's focus has it(first car I've seen it on), I had to tell my mom how to put it in reverse cuz she couldn't figure it out

In response to the SS lockout, there is none for the 2.4L. I can go from 5th to reverse. I remember when I first drove my friend's SS/SC... i pulled into a lot to look at the cars outside, then couldn't figure out how to back it up for 15 minutes, but finally figured it out. Reminded me of my mom's friend's turboed and built Jetta GLi... fast bitch for a VW GLi, but I had to ask how to put it into reverse...
