Which one are you going to go with spec2+ or 3+?

discussing this on another forum and 06Black said he preffered his Spec 3+ Over the Hypersingle. He said the Hypersingle has too stiff a clutch pedal for the amount of Tq its rated for. He said he LOVED the spec 3+ and thats what im going with. Put it on a stock resurfaced flywheel and you should be good aparently. At least this is going to be my setup

Do you know the tq capacity for the 2+&3+ by any chance? Which forum with 06black?

Hunter, your more than welcome to come and drive my HHR SS with a Exedy Hypersingle, im just north of you in Pataskala. My stock clutch with a fairly aggressive tune only lasted 20k miles, with normal driving. Did a little WOT with it, but it's mostly a kid hauler/grocery getter. The pedal is a lot stiffer than stock, but it grabs like a SOB! Takes a week or so to get used to giving it a little extra "gas" to get it going in first.

I may take you up on that at some point. My clutch slips just a little when I use the Trifecta tune, but not on the GMS1. Which tune are you running?

My clutch dosn't slip at WOT or anything like that, but is anyone else getting that weaksauce feeling starting out in 1st. It takes it like 1-2 seconds to start to engage. It's just a real weird feeling, hard to explain. I haven't even got 4k miles yet.

Funny you say that i have been talking with exedy if that will ever come to the public but i have not heard of it yet. Talk about big $$$ though, but if your pushing the power it will get the job done.

My friend has an Evo 8 or 9 or whatever the style before the new one is, with a twin disc clutch in it. It's stock, but with a twin disc. lol. Surprisingly it's not too bad to drive around town, from what I have been told.

Everyones opinions on feel is different, though. For example, my friends turbo prelude has a stage 2 exedy in it, and it feels about the same as my stock ss sc clutch.

The spec 2+ or 3+ will cost enough, especially after paying the state for the $120 speeding lesson the other day.

You wouldn't need anything past stage 2 unless your going big turbo, would you not?
I'm thinking about a 2 if this weaksauce crap gets worse.

Sean, i just got done working out the details on one with the tech guy at excedy. PM me if you want, we gotta talk fuel bits any who.

Gents, heres what i've found out over the years.

the exedy is a fine piece, made by a company with a solid background. however, i think its ****!
the pedal effort is high, and the clamp loads / torque capacity is nothing special.
rated for 430ft/lb
ive also seen several issues with pressure plate bolts. braking off, not being tight, ect.

the spec 3+ is the hot ticket. with the SAC PP it drives and feels like a stock clutch. I pushed this unit to huge torque numbers on my car and never had a single issue. no slip, no nothing. over the better part of 55k miles.

now if you order it with the non-SAC, non-Billet PP, you get a "just a **** hair more" pedal effort in return for a more linear and consistent clutch feel.

the one thing i dont get about spec are the torque ratings. they are by and far the highest i've seen in our market. yet, they drive soooooo nice. have they developed a friction material that all the others have missed? i'm not sure, its possible i guess. but for how soft the PP feels, they claim some huge ratings. and from the work i put mine thru, i believe them. but it just seems odd to me.

the only reason i dident run one again was there customer service, total ****!
with most of you buying thru a vendor, that doesn't much matter. but it poisoned the waters between myself and spec.

the new guy to the party, and the piece i'd like to people at least start talking about are the ACT units.
I've spent the past few months talking with them about all things LNF/LSJ clutch related. they custom built me the unit i'm going to run this year. 580ft/lb rateing. the test data backs it up, i'm excited!

they have a stg2+/stg3/hyper single competitor in there HDSS units.

there site isnt updated yet, but i know they offer both street and Prolite flywheels. the nice thing about the ACT units is that they are the only chromoly units out. one piece forged units, realllyyyyyy nice stuff. just as light as AL, much stronger. no chance you'll oval out the bolt holes / distort the bolt circle on this guy!

06Black, thanks for the info! Do you have any idea how much money the ACT's are going for?

with my custom pressure plate, disk, and pro-lite FW it was ~1100.
pretty typical IMO.

the std kits might be cheaper, not sure. it'll also depend on who you order thru. as always, I suggest the guys at OTTP.

I was running an HP tuners, with an ADM performance stage 3 tune. I just had the GMS1 done when I had the new clutch put in. Have put some other bolt on goodies recently too and hope to get a new tune done by the end of next week.

I'm running the exedy hyper single and I think it's a great clutch. The engagement is pretty smooth much nicer then the stock clutch. It's not much harder to push down vs the stock clutch and it's grabs really hard. The only downs are the noise. This clutch makes a ton of chattery sounds. But if you don't mind that its one of the best ones to go with. As long as your going for big power.
