I think the "certified" cars are supposed to have passed a multi point inspection.

So how'd they miss the clutch then?

I know that you just want to upgrade the clutch anyway, but you shouldn't have to do that until maybe next year ... AFTER the dealer replaces the bad clutch in your car now.

By every single way that I can figure it, they owe you one.

first gear is super low on this car. if you don't already know the LSJ is based of the 2.0T from the Saab 9-5, so is the tranny i believe. somebody will correct me if im wrong. it was originally designed for the hills of europe, and towing i think.

I don't know.

I'd have to check Saab 9-5 drive train specs to see if the 'Balt uses the same gear ratios in the tranny as they do.

They DEFINITELY owe you something.

Two hours old and your clutch slips = they owe you a clutch

So tell them they've got just 2 options:

Either fix my clutch

or

I'm returning the car and I want my money back

I'm betting they fix your clutch ...

Here you go fmxr47! Tell the dealer to kindly "Read It And Weep" ...

This is what compromises a GM Certified Used Vehicle:

What Is GM Certified?
http://www.gmcertified.com/certified/whatis/
To even be considered for the GM Certified program, a vehicle must be 2003 or newer, with less than 60,000 miles. GM Certified Used Vehicles are only available through select GM dealers.

* 100,000-Mile/5-Year Powertrain Limited Warranty*

As well you should.

It is my understanding that dealers charge a bit MORE for certified vehicles as opposed to "non" certified vehicles (because of the 117 Point Check).

So quite literally then, they owe it to you because of the extra $$ that you paid for that certification.

Good Luck!

If they do fix it (which they better!) expect them to have your car in the shop for a while.

I bought my car new, and at 5k the clutch was slipping (like yours, it was ok when it was IN any gear, but slipped when CHANGING gears at moderate acceleration).

The dealer ok'd the fix, but they had my car for about a week (partly because they had to order some stuff, partly because it is not a quick and simple job).

They installed a new flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate, and slave cylinder (which they said was leaking).

So push (but don't shove ... if you know what I mean) to have them fix this. From what I've read here on this forum, a clutch replacement is normally a $1,500-$1,800 job on our cars.

And you should NOT have to pay for that!

well, im dropping the car off tonight or tomorrow morning and they are oing to "diagnose the problem" and they say that the clutch is not covered under warranty cause it is a warn item, but my mom found out that it may be covered up to 36000 miles, i have 33000 so hopefully they will do it for free, or ust he deductible, and if not im gonna get like a stage 1 exedy or something, not sure though

You just bought the car from them, right?

So that means this doesn't involve any type of regular warranty.

They missed the slipping clutch on the Certified Points inspection, so they owe you a new clutch.

I don't know if it's the dealers complete fault here.
#1 how old are you
#2 have you ever driven stick before
#3 why are you starting in 2nd
#4 slipping of the stock clutch (by user) is not good since it glazes quickly
#5 and I hope you weren't wheel hoppin the **** out of it

But he said he had gotten it from the dealer that way, AFTER they had supposedly passed the car on the GM Certified Vehicle inspection (which is supposed to check for a slipping clutch).

Hmmm.

I'm thinking that the dealer didn't test the clutch, or they're lying.

That's my bet ...
