Well my 5th gear grinds when going in, so im guessing my scycronizers are gone. What should I do. Should I rebuild the tranny or just by a new one. The car has 80,000 miles on it by the way. Are these trans hard to fix or are they pretty stright forward. I brand new one from the dealer is 2500 bucks. Do think I could rebuild it cheaper then that. Let me know what you guys think

 

If it's the SS/SC you need specialty tools to work on it and I've heard it's a real pain even with them. Your best bet is to pull one from a junkyard.

If you have the 2.2 or the 2.4 I think it's fairly easy to work on, though I haven't done it personally.
