Hate to bring back an old thread... but something happened to my trans last night. I'm not too sure what yet. I think I might have stripped the teeth off of 1st gear. I dunno, I didn't think to try 2nd gear.

All I know is that it sounded like a frag grenade went off (not the boom... but pieces of **** flying everywhere)... and then the car wouldn't move in 1st gear... and the trans fluid started to SLOWLY leak out.

I am pretty sure Mitsu did the same exact thing with Evo buyers.

Kinda sorta, but Mitsu didn't GIVE the people a membership and encourage them to race. Mitsu just hired cube monkeys to search owner names online for SCCA results.

Sounds like a serious problem... AND there is nothing cheap about these trannies. I fried my Synchro blocker ring... and it was gonna be $1000+ just for parts. I got a used tranny for $750.

$1000 just for this part!!! RIDICULOUS!

And working on the tranny yourself is out of the question... you HAVE to have the proper tools (they cost $500+ and come from Germany IIRC), otherwise, when you pull your gears, they'll come out like this:

that doesnt look so bad...mine was missing atleast half of the teeth on 3rd gear, and since our gears are so close inside the housing, one of the chips that broke off 3rd gear went flyin into the bell housing and cracked the case,so thats the reason ur leaking oil...so if ur gonna get a new tranny from dealer, prepare 3 grand+..i had 2 trannys go out the same way..1 was with stock clutch, other was with the excedy..my stock was toast after couple of months because tranny oil went onto the clutch and the material got soft, and clutch started slippin like crazy

also dont try to warranty it..wont work...im goin to court with dealer cuz they told me mine broke cuz of wheel hop..last time i check our cars got 200hp no 700 where u can wheel hop in 3rd gear,i got all mounts(so no wheel hop)and axles are perfectly fine..ill make sure i get my 6700bux back for the 2 trannys i paid outta my pocket

You sold the Balt and bought a Neon... I'm selling the Balt and buying a Cobra.

Maybe one day, Chevy will understand that when the GM Performance Division SPECIFICALLY engineers a car for all around performance... that people are gonna be hard on them.

The difference between a good car company and a bad car company... is how they stand by and behind their performance cars.

I had the slave cylinder fail on my Cobalt at 52,000 miles. took out the clutch and flywheel too. The dealership would not replace it under warrenty saying that " Had I come in for regular service, someone would have caught it." A week earlier i was under the car and it was not leaking and all looked fine. That was a fun $1700 repair.

I'm a few hundred miles away from 75k with stock clutch, 2nd clutch master cylinder, and have yet to face the same problems some of these people have.
