tranny swap
tranny swap
I have a 2.2l ls automatic and i was wanting to change to a manual transmission. has anyone attempted to try this if so was it easy or hard. and where can i find a transmission for my car. because i have looked everywhere and no has any.
No one has attempted swapping trannys that i know of because it isn't just throw it in and your good to go. i dont know if you would just have to take out the TCM or what but you have to go through the e16 to get to it, which doesnt have any real tuning to get to it so i think that would complicate things.
this is all me just guessing though becuase i have never done any research on swapping, check a junkyard or something and see if you can find your tranny and have a shop put the same one in.
good luck
i think you'll actually have to have the ecm outta the car that has a manual trans and all the other stuff for the shifter pedals and good stuff like that..
and if you think 70000 miles is alot for an 06, i have 135,000 miles on my 06 right now and racing with the automatic doesnt hurt it that bad either. i've been sprayin my car and havent had any problems outta the auto trans.

Basically you need a donor car. I would NEVER recommend doing this swap without a donor car for at least 75% of this stuff. If you try to piece it all together your gonna go broke and likely insane.
Also, if you cant find an F23......well it doesnt matter, they are out there.
You would be SOOOO much better of in terms of money, time, blood, sweat, tears and sanity invested if you just put in a nice lightly modified 4T45. Any reputable shop can install an auto for you in a single day(6 hours or so, youll probably pay for 8-9 though). A manual trans swap would take significantly longer. My guess is I could PROBABly get it done in like 2.5-3 days. SO lets call that a very conservative 20hr minimum. And thats only If ive got all the parts, ready to be installed. If you were to show with two cars....well, absolute best case scenario is probably 40hrs. Yes youd be paying for an entire weeks work. You dont even want to know how much that would be just in labor.
You could probably get a used trans installed for a total of about $1000 with careful shopping.
You can get yours rebuilt and on the road again with a high performance build kit for under $2000

I know it will take more than just that, but that's all I could find.
What about these torque converters?

A rebuild kit with seals, gaskets, plates , clutches and bands is about $500 or less
