Transmission swaps

Has anyone thought about swaping the G6 6 speed transmission into their Cobalt (SS)? I got to thinking about it last night when I saw one. Also GM is supposed to come out with a 5 speed AWD transaxle - it would be interesting to see a AWD SS ... give those Evo and STi's a run for their money

Anyway... just food for thought.

I guess it'd all come down to how simple it would be to swap. If it was just a straight swap (which I sort of doubt) I would consider it.

It would be neat to see an AWD SS but I doubt it would happen.

People are wanting a twin charge system that is highly complicated and you think a transmission swap is going to be hard?
Anything is possible with enough time and money , someone will do it.

An AWD SS would need more power to give the sti/evo a run for it's money. It prob woudn't even have 200awhp and even less torque

As far as the g6 6 speed...I hadn't even thouth of that swap..but really...voiding your whole powertrain warranty? Sounds like a swap after you pay the car off but it'd be interesting to see.

I thought you worded the question to refer to individuals, which is how I answered. I know if people want one badly enough they'll do it (or at least try it), but for me it's not really worth it to do an overly complex tranny swap then have to think about whether the gear ratios are going to work well with the LSJ, since the tranny was originally matched up with a totally different engine. Now a full swap, both engine and tranny, out of the G6 would make more sense, but it's still not something I'd be willing to mess with.

I doubt either swap would happen anytime soon. All the transmissions are electronically controlled which means computer issues. And the G6 6 spd is built for a V6 so it's not ever gears up for a 4 cyl car.

I don't see anything like that happening until the cars are a lot older and cheaper and part can be found in junk yards. Right now such a task would be expensive and probably maybe a concept car type of job for experts with lots of time and money.
