Transmission won't go into reverse--HELP

Hey guys,
A few weeks ago I go into the car and tried backing out of my driveway, but my car would not shift into reverse (it's an 08 SS/TC) Eventually I figured out the only way that the car would go into reverse is if the car was stalled out violently (don't ask how I figured that out lol) I only tried it a few times, because I would rather not stall out my car because of the potential negative side effects. It seems like the jerking maybe loosens up the cables? But after driving the cat around and then trying to go into reverse again it will not go in. I messed with the clamp under the cupholder and the linkage on the transmission to no avail. The car goes in every other gear, although does rarely slip out of 5th on the highway. Any input would be appreciated.

Well I would habe to shift into 1st and 2nd before it would go into reverse. Does it slap hard into reverse when you finally get it in?

Does it have an upgraded shifter? If so you may just have to adjust the shift cables connection.
