warranty question

Is it true that I have to get my oil changed at the dealership to keep from voiding my warranty?

buy the right filter, the right oil, and keep the receipt.

Unless they are doing it free of charge, it's illegal to void your warranty for not getting them to change it.

They've never even bothered to ask me for a receipt at my dealership and when I picked up the new GT last Friday, they told me to record milage and save receipts if I do it myself.

you can get your oil changed anywhere as long as you hold on to receipts saying you got your oil changed. Trust me when my mazda6's motor locked up they said it wasnt properly maintained, so i had to get all my receipts out and show them it had regular oil changes. thats what saved me from getting my motor replaced under warranty.

if the dealer proves you neglected your vehicle by never performing oil changes then they can try to void your warrenty if something really drastic happens...but its hard for them to prove in court unless the original filter etc is still on the car. there was an instance at hyundai where my friend was a service manager where this woman had the car towed in...whole engine basically shot to ****...she hadnt had an oil change since she bought the car....no record or anything.... so they refused to fix her car under their 100k warranty and from what i recall she had quite a few miles on it. Sometimes they try to say if you dont use their filters then if something goes wrong they wont cover it...but as long as u can prove you are doing the oil changes you shouldnt encounter a problem/
