Weak Axles?

Is it really true that cobalts/redlines S/C's have weak axles? If so how would it be safe to launch the car?

Like pulling away from a STOP sign. Nice and gingerly.

^^ Haha... well the story on these cars is that people dont know to let off the gas so then the axles break.. it happens... but not super often.. usually other things break before the axles.. although I have been there when an axle breaks and pushing a car 1 mile is not fun lol

the car can be launched at higher rpm's. You have to pay attention to the car and listen when it tells you something. You CAN'T miss knowing when the car is wheelhopping. It feels like the car is trying to pound the pavement into submission. Like said before let off the gas when this is happening and the result is no broken axles. There are things to help prevent this but driver awareness is the best tool to prevent this from happening.

Axles are cheap and easily replaceable anyways.... if you break them, just get stronger axles from the drivershaft shop... And that way it's the transmission that takes the hit from then on.. LOL.

I dunno about cheap... 700 for stronger axles isn't exactly cheap. But, I'd rather pay for axles than a new tranny.

Oh I didn't realize thay are that much, that's not cheap. I guess they are so expensive because not many people make them for the cobalt. IMO $700 is way too expensive.

If I had to, I'd get them before my stock ones broke, so if the stg.2 axles broke, I could just go back to stock.`

I call bullshit on weak axles. I launch at over 5K rpms on stock axles. I have slicks and trans mounts. No wheel hop at all.

the cooling god has spoken..., how quick do you shoot off the line launching at that rpm? I've been practicing at 2k, and it gets me out the hole pretty quick. I have mounts for the engine and tranny also.

I think it's because more people are actually being more aware of what the car's trying to tell them.
