What stage clutch is right for me?

Ok, so far I have an HP tune at 20-22psi, new street tires, catback exhaust, and im running about 290whp and 340wtq last time i dynoed right after i got my car tuned (about 4 or 5 months ago) and now my clutch is officially slipping at 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear. I slip right when i hit 300+TQ on my gauge so its probably the torque that is screwing me here. So, I knew this day was to come but not so early (car has 20,1xx miles) but whatever, I plan on putting more mods on the car so im just going to bite the bullet and get a stronger clutch.

My question is, how strong can I go?
What stage clutch is right for about 350-400whp?
Will I need to get a new transmission? Will getting a stage 3 or 4 clutch mess up my stock GM transmission?
Does GM sell stronger clutches?
Where would be the best place to buy a new clutch for my car?

Im in a 2009 SS/TC for those who didn't see my sig

clutch

sup man the best clutch in that range is spec stage 2 it holds up to 390tq and stage 2+ holds up to 415tq........but stage 2+ has a stronger pedal feel and stage 2 is stock and its a longer life to...stage 2 would be what i would buy and epc is a great company and they back there product. hope that helps...

I would personally stage away from Spec Clutches

Search the net for issues people have had with them

I run a Clutchmasters Stage 4 6 puck and it holds fine

Heard good things about the Exedy HS also

1 year and ~20k miles on my SPEC Stage 2+ rated 437 ft/lb torque with their LW FW and no issues. Like many performance clutches it moans the first two take offs when it's cold out though. I'm pleased with it's drivability also.

Exedy HS is a b!tch to DD from those that had one.

People post bad things about CM also, you pay your $$$ and take your chances.

Your only going to get a stiffer pedal if you upgrade the hydraulics. If you put a puck clutch in your car it could damage the transmission but its not likely. The puck design is so you have no slip so it transfers power instantly.

What are you talking about? The stiffer pedal comes from the stronger clamping force of the pressure plate spring action vs. stock. It takes more hyd force to separate the pressure plate from the flywheel causing the pedal to be 'stiffer' to depress.

on a cable clutch a bigger clutch will. On a hydro like ours the stiffness is coming from the master cylinder

I have a six puck in the t/a. Its really not bad but its jerky. You cant really drive it smooth because you cant slip it. You get used to it though it just depends what you consider drive ability. Its also going to wear faster then a disc.

ky clutch 6 pucks are great with drivability, they carry 8 pucks which i dont recommend unless you completely replace everything internal with billet steal and cryo the **** cuz i used a 8 puck and my tranny blew when i went from 2nd to third using ky clutch 8 puck, so i went to there 6 puck and all is great. never blew there clutches up lol so im good. tranny was my fault and i did blow up two cm stage for 6 puck ceramic clutches

i don't doubt that the 6-puck clutch can hold some torque, but aren't 6-pucks known for NOT having good drivability? isn't it either on/off, no slipping the clutch? like a light switch?

6puck sprung clutches are cake, just like a full faced disc. It's the unsprung discs that are a pain to start from stop.

basically a 6 puck is close to drivability of a full faced disc that is double sprung with ceramic padds. the pads and the springs is really wut makes the ride, you can get kevlarand ceramic, or just kevlar, but it does have more of a chance slipping a little

not true,... my firebird has a hydrolic clutch and when it was slipping, i bought a new clutch kit (stock) and put er in.. the clutch pedal went very firm.. its the added clamp load.. its harder to push in so it requires more force to move it.
