You'd better pray if you throw a clutch in the 4T45.

The 4T45 is an automatic. If you have the auto and plan on going forced induction, look into IPT in New Jersey. They're one of the few places that will work with beefing it up. I believe Level Ten also works with GM autos, but I'm not 100% sure if they work on the 4T45. They might stick to the larger 4T65. The Grand Am guys have been building 4T45s for years. The J-Body guys have worked with them too (the 4T40, but some of the parts carry over).

You should be able to find upgraded valve bodies, clutch packs, strengthened sun gears, strengthened shafts, upgraded pumps, bearings, heat treated cases, strengthened high stall torque converters, and more. IPT offers a fully built trans for around $3000.

If you're only looking for something to handle moderate power gains, you should be ok with some TCM tuning and an aftermarket cooler.

GM puts a 4T65 in their built auto Cobalts, but that requires a lot of custom work, and I have yet to hear of anyone following their example.

And if you're talking about the 5-speed, then this post doesn't apply at all.
