What is a typical life span of an F35?
I know there's a zillion variables, but how long does a normal F35 last? What goes wrong besides the typical 3rd gear failure? I have a spare transmission I'm sending to Powell for a rebuild and 4.45 gears, and was just wondering. My factory transmission is at 100,400 miles with zero problems.

Theres really not that many variables torque tune clutch how you drive and state of repair are the big ones
They are realistically pretty good transmissions. It will proly last till you make more than 400ftlbs of torque with a good clutch, but if you put an unfriendly tune in it and or go wot in 3rd at low rpm it could do its best impression of a grenade at any time

I'm not sure how the previous owner treated the car until 46k, but I beat the living hell out of it, and with 102k it still shifts flawlessly. Only problem I've had is the roll pin. I think even if you beat on it, as long as you shift properly and rev match, you will get a lot out of your transmission. I'm also making stock power, so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.
i mean it also depends on if we are talking ss/sc or ss/tc trans ??
they have diff gears .... the 3.92 i believe in the ss/tc are prone to failure with the zfr hitting hard in 3rd.
i have yet to hear of a 4.05 trany blowing out a gear like the 3.92 ... but then again the lsj-t dont seem to make the crazy torque as the lnf's

Got my car at 53k miles. im at 87k, almost 20k tuned...and my transmission shifts fine. The only issue i have is that sometimes when I put it into reverse it grinds for a split second. Happened on my LSJ too. When I sold my LSJ, it had 92k miles on it and the transmission was just fine.
With that being said, there is no real Lifespan of the transmission. It depends on how you drive and how your tune is. if you are making 400+ ft lb torque and you have a clutch that holds, your transmission will probably not. The F35 is rated max at what the SS/TC comes with stock. anything above is putting more stress on it.
