I know that they make rods for the 2.2, but my understanding was that the 2.0L pistons will not fit the 2.2L rods, so all I was saying was that to make it work all you have to do is buy rods and pistons that are for the 2.0. please correct me if I'm wrong. because I probably would rather 9.5:1,

but if I have to use the 8.9:1 it's also not a big deal because I will probably be using the MG3 tranny from the vue which has an axle ratio of 4.41. with a lower gear like that it should be just fine. But I would like to see if I could use the 9.5:1 compression.

you cannot just throw 2.0l rods and pistons in a 2.2l, with the longer stroke of the 2.2l crank the pistons would hang out the top of the deck.

im not sure if the mg3 tranny will bolt right into a cobalt, i know it isnt a bolt in to a j-body as the mounts were different. i did a gear ratio swap on an m86, put the mg3 final drive into the m86.

keep an eye open for my 2.2l build thread in the advanced mods section. i will be cc-ing the wiseco pistons and calculating what the actual compression ratio is with several different head gasket combos. depending, you may be able to get close to 9.5:1 compression. keep an eye on out for that, im hoping to do this tomorow evening.

diamond makes a 9.5:1 piston for our 2.2

buy the eagle 2.2 forged rods, and the diamond pistons 9.5:1 2.2 pistons.. there on there site.. you cant use a 2.0 piston from what i heard unless somehow a bigger ring was used i believe.. dont quote me on the 2.0 thing..

the build book said something about using a piston ring set if using the 2.0 rods..

diamond makes custom pistons to just to let you know also..

i have seen a few sites selling diamond pistons for the 2.2 in all the sizes like:

8.9:1
9.5:1
10.1:1

there around 300-400ish

to find diamonds its under the L42 ecotec engine, same engine as ours but the L42 is the pure gasoline engine, 2.2 is the same engine.. ive read it in 5 places but i will call diamond this week to confirm it guarenteed, if not, then i will get custom pistons from them as they are a awesome company.

well I took my stock cobalt out last night cause thinking about it was killing me. So to figure out if I'd be fine with the stock tranny I raced it on some brand-new roads that lead to nothing right now. it's really perfect, there's no one out there.

I know 1st - 3rd when you shift at redline and shift it drops you back to about 4k or so which is good, it keeps you in the power-band enough. I'm ok with the 3.84 axle ratio. But if later on I find out that it will be an easy swap and I can grab a MG3 off of ebay, I will be very tempted to do it.

ok cool thanks. diamond also makes 10.5:1 pistons for the 2.2....hmmm

I am sticking with the stock tranny, hope I dont break any axles either.

what do you guys think about the LSD from Quaife?? I think I will have a shop put it in for me. I am learning a lot and I know how to break down/rebuild engines but I havn't dealt with differentials yet. I know if you dont do it right it will break down the road.
