winding noise while accelerating

I've got a 2008 Cobalt Sport (2.4L, 5 speed) with only 4500 clicks (2796 miles) on it. I love my car but I'm getting kinda' ticked off.

When I first picked up my car, the synchronizer was apparently messed up and the dealership just ending up replacing the whole transmission. Everything was fine for about 2 months but now, whenever I accelerate, I notice what I can best describe as a kind of winding sound; similar to the sound that some manual transmission vehicles make when in reverse. Although I can hear the "winding sound" in any gear, it's most noticeable in 2nd gear. Any ideas what might be wrong?

Yeah...I know. It's just frustrating because it's a new car. It's even more aggravating when ricers say, "that's what happens when you buy an American car".

i kinda feel i have a similar sound from my engine, i just figure its the NA engine or maybe cause its a similar SRI design to the 2.4l balts. i only notice it while actually accelerating, which i assume its air intake.

The only reason why I suspect it's a problem is because it hasn't done it before. The only thing that I've done differently in the last little while is switch to higher octane fuel. I used to put the regular stuff in (87 octane) but read in the manual that putting higher octane is better for performance. I don't think putting in 93 octane fuel could really account for this sudden change????? The car does seem a slight bit faster though.

There was a thread about 2.2's making a whining sound as well as 2.4's, I've been in L61 Cavy's that do it too... dunno if this is the noise or something else entirely.
