09 Headunit install

Hey all,

Well I read the sticky's and I saw that I need some $100 harness to hook up a radio if I want to retain some factory settings which I don't care about but more my question is XM radio. I want to keep the XM radio and the stock attena, is there a way to do this? I swear I saw a How to but I am not able to find it now.

Also, are there any fitment issues with a normal deck or do I need to trim stuff behind the deck?

I got an amp and sub this weekend and hooked it up through the back speakers but its pretty quiet with 2 JL subs and 1100 watts, almost seems just as loud as the stock sub so I assume thats because of the factory head unit.

Also, anybody know of a deck that supports bluetooth, XM, mp3 and won't break the bank? I am used to the factory bluetooth now and would like to have it with the new deck also.

Any help would be great,

Thanks

Also, is there any difference from 07,08 to 09 cobalt?

Thanks

umm lol no help?

I had the alpine 8994 i believe that is its model number. It had accessories you could buy that would retain satellite radio and it was bluetooth capable and it also had an ipod cable that you could run into the glove box and control through the head unit. The head unit itself was like 230 and the cable for ipod is like 30 bucks but the other stuff gets a little more costly. As far as fitment you shouldnt have and issues an aftermarket unit isnt really any deeper than the stock. But you will also need a dash trim kit so it fits the double din opening and also an antenna adapter, both rather inexpensive, unless you get the trim kit that has the body control module stuff built in. As far as subs not being loud tapped into rear speakers you may want to go back through the wiring and make sure you didnt reverse any wires that tapped into the speakers because that will make a BIG difference, since im assuming you used a line converter.

wow thanks for the response. As for a LOC, no I used the high level inputs on my amp but where you plus in the wire from the speaker into the amp, well its so small, I used 16 awg speaker wire but had to trip like hald of the tips off so it was able to fit into hole on the amps. I am going to go through it again this weekend as I swear there is something wrong. Like I can hear it but its only as loud as the stock or maybe just a tad loud but its not normal.

I had the same issue with an old car and a different system, as soon as I added a head unit, it was all good and loud!

Yeah, when you do install an aftermarket head unit and run rca's that will make a big difference plus you can tune the stuff alot better with an aftermarket head unit as opposed to the stock. Good luck on finding out what is going on with it because it should be alot louder since the stock one is like 200 watts if that. Also are you sure you have a good ground? And also maybe look at the controls on the amp and mess around with them to see if that makes any difference.

Yeah I played with the settings on the amp but I have never had an amp like this so its weird. Its a Audison amp. I pretty much got it to as loud as it will go without cranking up the gain.

Emperor, I am not using any RCA's, wires from the speakers go straight into the amp as I have inputs for that purpose

you're not using a line-out converter?

No I am not as my amp has input on it to skip the LOC portion. I connected from the rear speakers straight into the high level input (i think it is called) and then I ran all my wires to the subs and batteries. Most of the higher end amps have this option.

Like I said the only thing I can think of is that maybe you have wires reversed, the quickest way to find out would be unhook just one set of wires and reverse them, just twist them together while your checking. I always just leave the stereo on that way you will know immediately if there is a change instead of having to go up front and what not.

k thanks, I think I am going to go try that right now!

Way too cold and dark out there. Screw this. I am just going to buy a aftermarket HU. Now my questions, I can only find a GMOS-LAN-03 or GMOS-LAN-05 in Canada, will these work with a 09 SS/TC (7 speaker, onstar xm) or does it need to be the GMOS-LAN-04?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure its the GMOS LAN 04 you want.
I hav eit in my 07 and to be honest with you its a waste of money.
When you use it, the only way to get your front speakers loud it to turn up the dial on the side, however this also turns up the door chimes and turn signals (they play through the speakers on 07's and up) to a "ouch, your making my ears bleed" level.
You should just get the cheap one and deal without the chimes.
If however you really want the LAN 04 heres a link to it on ebay

x2 if you have them out of phase as its called the signals basically fighting itself... makes it sound fucked up plus not nearly the volume it should.... what audison do you have. just curious.

i have a mcintosh for sale FYI. gonna go on ebay pretty soon

yeah I was thinking why do I need onstar. I am just going to get the cheap one and see how it is. Man, 5 years ago, I never had issues like this on any car.

I have the LRx1.1k amp. The only thing that bothers me is the inputs for the where I put the speaker wire is so so small. I am going to try again but burning the day so I can see.
