2-DIN options

I want a 2-DIN DVD receiver for my SS. I've narrowed my search down to a few different head units but I'm not sure about what kind of power output I should look for. Since I'll be using the metra harness kit the amp in the receiver will be going through the stock amp as well. I don't want to cook my electronics. My thinking is a lower RMS would be better for both distortion and overpowering my stock amp, correct?

Here's a couple units I'm looking at:

Jensen VM9224:

Sony XAV-63:

I'm leaning towards the Sony because I've had bad luck with Jensen in the past. I've never owned a Sony HU but I respect that brand name more than a JVC or Jensen. The Pioneer HUs in this price range are a 5.8" screen w/ fewer options, and all the 7" off brands like Blaupunkt/Boss/Pyle don't seem trustworthy. If anyone has any cheap recommendations I'll entertain ideas though. Lemme know what you guys think. Thanks!

I have a jensen, its old and it blows, but has great sound, and I just use my itouch instead of the using its touch screen.

The one that was for sale is gone.

I like Pioneer too, but for the 200-300 price range you don't get a very good deck. Like their 1400 has less outputs, fewer inputs, lower quality screen with more glare etc. The nice ones at $450-500 aren't in my budget. I just want a DVD player that's iPhone compatible is all, just as long as the sound quality is still as good or better than the stock HU.

Lots of options for that. Make sure you get a head unit that somebody makes an automatic bypass switch for.

A 9.3?? Wow that has STEAL ME written all over it lol. Might be a lot more hardware than I need but the price is decent. The 800x400 rez for that size is not very good though, most 5" screens have an 800x400. I've seen 7" screens with 1200x800 resolution. Probably still clear enough for a car but I bet the glossy screen glares like a mother in the sun. Cool though!

first off lower power isnt what you should look for 90% of the amps in hus are the same because they utilize one mosfet. the other 10% are the same power but shittier quality

Thanks for clarifying Emperor. It makes sense to get a better internal amp on the deck anyway because it will probably not be as cheap as the typical 13-14w RMS units. Might even reduce distortion.

I opted out of the Sony and Jensen. That Sony wasn't bluetooth friendly and their next model up was a lot more. The Jensen 9224 is getting discontinued and they replaced it with the 9225Bt, which is BT compatible but it didn't have as many features as the JVC KW-AV60Bt; like the 3 brightness modes and multi-color display options. And it had a better MOS-FET (20w RMS). It was only $15 more than the others so for $260 shipped I think it will do fine.

Thanks for the opinions guys. Now onto installation...

I'll probably never buy a used head unit again w/out at least a 30-day warranty. But I was originally after a 7" screen but I really wanted to have a volume knob in case I can't figure out how the SWI-PS thing works and I lose the steering wheel controls.

P.S. I think I saw you near 77 a while back, in my rear view. I live in Akron but run around all over NE Ohio for work. You have a sharp car. If I ever see you again I'll flag you down.

JVC KW-AV60BT. Got it for 259 shipped off fleabay. It was listed as brand new with 30 day warranty. Got a backup camera to go with it for another 17 shipped. Even if its not perfect its more stereo than I will need. I like the eq adjustments on it better than the others in the 250 range.

I think it's worth it. But I have specific reasons for it. My parking situation at home and work are close calls trying to navigate so sometimes I literally have to use every inch of room to get out. Plus I will be able to see what my rear wing blocks in the rear view! lol

For someone who's pulled seats and worked around the dash, I bet you could run the RCAs and have it functional in 20 minutes.
