2007 radio to NAV system.

so i was looking at a 2007 Chev Tahoe with the NAV in it and is seems that it would fit in the same hole that the 2007 cobalt radio fits in. has anyone tryed this or even thought about it? it would look sweet in our cars i think

well you'd probably be better off just putting in an after market Nav. Pioneer makes a really nice one that playes CD, MP3, DVD.

If you do that you would have problems in how the radio works. IF you can get a dealership to unlock it for you then it might work. But you might have problems in getting the system interact with the vehicle

And before anyone starts in that the radio is not a module and does not talk to the car it does, thats why you need it to be unlocked and why it reads through the OBD II port

they offer some Factory GM Nav units for upgrading stock applications at the place I work, I was thinking about going this route, there about as much as a Nice Pioneer or Eclipse, but are supposed to plug and play, I'd have to assume a little pin adjusting woudl be needed, but they are compatible with Onstar, XM, and steering wheel controls....I would love to know if anyone has actually done this?

I installed mine and you can get steering wheel controls to work you just have to buy another part. same for xm too. Dont do Eclipse. Eclipse is great for audio dont get me wrong but there Nav is way behind Pioneer. Go Pioneer

I need to upgrade my Avic D1 to the new Z1 I love the new navigation system.

Thats what I would recomend also. Then you dont have to deal with finding out if it works getting it unlocked and so on

I'm planning on purchasing the Z1, And I know all the parts I need to make it work with everything I currently have (steering wheel controls, XM, Onstar) Besides, I need the RCA outputs for the rest of the system.

I just thought the factory unit might be interesting and seeing as I have a second Cobalt SS sitting at home, it might be a easier unit to install in that one. (cheaper overall)

The Z1 does offer performance calculations if all the wires are hooked up correctly...So that screen you see above is usable...(I don't know how accurate it is though)

The gauges are called Vehicle Dynamics Display. They are pre loaded. you can pick from voltage, acceleration (G force), side acceleration (G force), angular velocity, slope, direction, or clock. I just had them on the screen when i took the pic. I use the acceleration and side acceleration to see what I can pull. the one in the middle is your speed. But most of the time i have the navi map up.

They have been accurate on My Avic D1 so I would assume they are even more accurate on the new unit. The pioneer system also looks better than a lot of the factory systems.

Do the steering wheel controls work with the Avic Z1? I was thinking about getting this exact unit but wanted to keep my steering wheel controls.

yes you can get the steering wheel controls to work but you need to buy the PAC SWI-PS steering wheel control interface. I got if from crutchfield. here a link http://www.crutchfield.com/S-0T7wOBs...ols&i=127SWIPS

Great! good to hear! thanks for the reply, i'll be buying mine next month. BTW did you install the headunit yourself or pay to have it installed? Wondering cause it looks like a pain to install the head unit.

I installed it myself bc im an installer for over three years. But it is kinda like a head unit. You just have to hook up the parking brake wire, run you navi antenna, and hook up amp turn on if you have the pioneer system in your car. there is a speed wire that hooks up to your VSS wire but you dont have to hook it. I didnt and everything works fine. Just make sure you get the right dash kit if you do it yourself.
