Adding AUX to 2005 stock HU
Adding AUX to 2005 stock HU
I recently got an 05 SS/SC but deeply miss the stock auxiliary port on the 2008 LT I used to have. After a little bit of research there seem to be a few different options. I considered aftermarket radio but it seems complicated and hard to keep the steering wheel controls working. I think I would prefer adding aux to the existing HU.
I've heard of a way to connect aux wires into the XM input, and then drill a hole to reach your mp3 player. I also saw someone talking about something like this: All GM Wiring - 2005+ GM radio Dual (2) Aux Input: Peripheral PXAUX PGHGM3 ISGM533 (Not sure if this is the same strategy or different)
Has anyone done this successfully? I don't want a cheap FM transmitter, I would prefer to hardwire it and get quality.
Thanks!

I have the gateway installed in my car but I have the one that's got the iPod input and the other is aux input. Currently I have my inputs configured for my sc-c1 Sirius tuner and the other for my iPod. The gateway is nice because you don't have to cut any wires. It comes with a t-harness. Your factory harness plugs into that then it gets plugged into your HU. It's easy to install and works well. You will be able to use your steering wheel controls. Any iPod song info is displayed on the radio as well. This is the one I havehttp://iSimple ISGM573 Gateway Autom...com/B0047XVWIA

You need the isgm 572. The harness plugs are different for 05-06 than they are for 07-10
Just an FYI....your HU needs to have a "band" button for these interfaces to work. Basically, if your head unit supports xm, you can install one of these. My 05 didn't have factory xm but my radio has the band button and is "xm ready".

I can't speak for the interface but I have done the XM tap in my car. It took about 30 minutes. The hardest part was creating my own auxilery cable. You can't really hack one apart like the how to says as they are single strand wires which makes it nearly impossible to tap with them.
The gateway module will give you more functionality/expandability( there are Bluetooth and hd radio add-on modules)
The aux to xm cable is cheaper
Both require roughly the same amount of time, I'd say.
