Adding factory sub to base model balt

Hello everyone im new here! I have a thread in the introductions already! My first question is about adding the factory pioneer sub onto the base model cobalt. I have an 05 base with an aftermarket JVC headunit already installed and I picked up a factory pioneer sub for $15 from a junkyard and wanted to hook it up to the headunit. I like the way the box just sits in the corner and doesn't take much room and would love to use it. Ive never done any work with amplifiers or subs before, just wiring up headunits and that's it so im clueless on this, so my question is:
1. will it work?
2. What all do I need for it to work
Ive searched here and yourcobalt for this and couldn't get the answer I was looking for, thanks in advance!

^^ how would you not notice adding a subwoofer?

yes it will work, and fit. i did it in my 08 the mounting holes are in the back just like an SS so you just need to find the oem bolts. i do have pics of them, thanks to a member on here, so you might need to PM a member or two on here to find them.

you'll need an aftermarket amp to hook it up and you'll be bumping in no time.

It really is a clean setup and worth it. Not too powerful but sounds good.

Agreed, just wasn't enough bass for me. But for stock, you can't beat it.

you can definitely fit a different sub in there. i have a Polk MM1040 with an Alpine MRX-M50 and it pounds pretty hard.

gets lower than yo girl on the dance floor.

What is the factory sub rated at? You will need an amp rated for the same or slightly higher(puts less strain on the amp and general electrical when setting to sub wattage) to wire it up to.

I would put a different sub in the enclosure and get a good amp. it will look clean and sound good, and not take up much room.

im not huge into bass but my speakers have none whatsoever that's why I got this, so id like to keep this as cost efficient as possible, and id like to keep the pioneer that's in it, just didn't know if there was a simple way to add an amp and wire it.

You would have to buy an aftermarket amp and hook the sub to that, since you dont have a factory headunit and the car doesnt have the factory wiring for the sub anyways.

You can amp the factory sub and actually get some really good bass out of it, I've done it. But too much and you WILL blow it. Get a small amp and keep the levels down on it and you should be fine.

^^^ this. the stock sub cant handle **** for power. So i would recommend you find a shallow sub you like and buy the appropriate amp to power that. Then from there use that amp on the stock sub until it blows.
