Aftermarket HU Install Issues.

Before reading any further, please take into account that I have used the "search" button.
I'm tired, my eyes are burning, and I just can't handle any more searching right now.

My Car:
2006 Cobalt LT
Standard Radio (Without Upgraded Audio system, Without On-Star)

Today I received my Pioneer DEH-P4000UB along with an external HD-Radio tuner.
I was given with the purchase of my HU (From Crutchfield), the following wiring harness:

My apologies for the awful image.

After carefully wiring the harness to the new HU (Crimp Caps, Elec tape, etc..) I attached
it to the factory wiring... Which was unusually difficult to attach, but the orientation of
the connector is correct. And before you ask, yes, the fuse-tap is in place. Anyway,
I turned my vehicle on to test the unit and the following occurred:

- Lost DIC, Straight " - - - - - - - - " On the LCD Display.
- Lost All Gauges - Jumped around a bit, then returned to 0
- Lost Chimes
- No audio output from Door/Rear Speakers.

To rule out the head unit as being faulty, I attached one of the old stock speakers
directly to the wiring coming off the new HU. Everything worked just fine.
(Including the ex. HD Radio box)

So, what's going on here? I've triple checked my wiring, and nothing seems to
be out of the ordinary.

Did I miss something?
Do I need to re-wire my harness with different pin-outs? If so, ... please help

Again, I apologize if the answer to my problem is blatantly obvious. I'd
really appreciate any assistance/support you guys have to offer.

As a side note - this is probably one of the most annoying installs I've
ever had to deal with... Curious as to whether any of you had the same issues.

Thank you.

Check the accessory wire..Under the steering wheel there is an accessory wire you can tap into instead of the fuse box..I think the wire is black and gray.As far as everything else just match colors.

EmperorJJ1,

I have a 2007 Cobalt LT.... I used the following wire harness made by Metra....

Metra Wiring Harness
Saturn VU/ Ion 2006
#70-2202

TRUST ME, THE PIN OUTS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME FOR THE 2007 COBALT LT's!!! Im guessin it mite work the the 06 cobalt ?? dont know for sure.

How do i know? I walked into the audio shop with an extra set of a stock radio harness from an 07 LT and test fit them MYSELF... the pins matched exactly!!!!!!!! I have this in my car as we speak..... Fits like a glove, except for the dimmer... I never use this wire though, makes no difference.

here are some pics of what i am talking about.... sorry for the crappy quality, i used my moms camera phone.

Package...

Harness itself...

Stock harness taken from a wrecked balt test fitted into the harness.....

Hope this helps some of u out... this harness is only a temporary until i get the GMLAN03 to get my chimes back... if u dont mind not having the chimes, then this should help u guys out....

Oh and heres a pic of my balt just for fun... RIMS COMING THIS SUMMER CANT WAIT!!!

This should be made into a sticky emperor

Cool... glad i could contribute to the forum and yeah, i doubt the 06 cobalts will fit the harness mentioned above.. i think the harnesses are different ?? dont know cuz iv never seen a stock 06 cobalt harness.

but yes, the metra harness will work if u dont mind not having the chimes.. u will need the GMLAN03 for the 07 balts..

Question

Ok, so today I am going to attempt to put my new pioneer unit in my car as soon as I got pick my harness up from the store that ordered it...... but I'm scared I'm going to have the same problem.. I have an 06 LT WITHOUT the onstar or the 7 speaker system... but I have talked to multiple places and iv gotten answer from they don't make a harness to I need the gm lan one for over 100 bucks.. And the one I'm gettin today cost only 15 bucks and the guy swears it will work.... what are the odds that I will run into a problem??? Also if I do have this same problem what do I need to do t fix it.... I am fairly good with this kinda stuff. But no way in hell I'm spending 100 bucks for the other harness.. I rather just hardwire the whole thing in myself..... thanks chris!!
