Aftermarket HU + LS?

I'm looking at the Pioneer FH-P8000BT for my first mod to my car. Basic electrical knowledge here, so I think I'm fine on that aspect. What should I use to maintain door chimes and other stock creature comforts?

I've got a 2007 Cobalt LS with just the four speaker package... one day I'll add a sub to the mix and an amp.

For something under $500, is there anything decent in a 10" - 12" sub and amp?

Thanks!

i just installed one of those HUs.

IIRC, the only way to maintain the chimes is with the GM harness kit that's like $100

i used the pac gm 11 bit harness and although it remains the door chimes, the turn signals are nearly silent, but i need my chimes, i always sit in the car a dn listen to music or change and listen to music and forget my keys

cobalt has not alot of space, im going to put in two kicker comp vt 12" subs (go for about 140 a piece on ebay) and an alpine amp

all the module harnesses allow you to adjust the volume of the chimes some how

I talked to the car audio place in town, and they quoted me $512 for the setup. The HU, the harness, installation, and misc parts like an antenna cable or something. Decent or no? I'm considering doing it myself, to be honest.

What harness did you use? Where did you hook up to ignition power, did you have to use a relay? (The guy in the shop said I had to... weird.)

sorry but **** those chimes

their so annoying.

i might just go get an aftermarket HU because the chimes are SOOO annoying. i always sit in my car listen to music with the door open and hold my foot on the little door button to make it STFU.

You should just do it yourself, the harness there talking about (your local shop) won't retain the chimes if you have to tap a power source
Heres the parts you need and prices (in $ Canadian, from ebay)
Pioneer FH-P8000BT-$279.99
GMOS LAN 03-$109.99
Merta 95-3302 -$9.99
Metra 40 CR10-$9.99 (ant adapter)

This will retain the chimes, and make it so you don't have to tap a power source. Your local shop wants to use a cheaper adapter ($20.00) that means there charging you close to $200 for the install

Thanks Spun! Perfect! I'll just save up for this stuff (gotta repair my bumper first ) and then it's all good to go! The shop wanted $100 to install it, and they were overstocked in the HU's so they were going to give it to me $100 off. I dunno how he calculated $512. I'm doing it myself anyway.

Damnit. Nothing on eBay for the Metra 95-3302 or the Metra 40 CR10. Where'd you see it on eBay?

I'm considering loosing my door chimes. It's a pain in the ass when I want my music on and my driver side door open. The music either has to be louder than the chimes, or the door has to be closed. I'm leaning towards the $20 harness. :P

Do you have the make/model of the harness you have?
