Alt whine+Wiring question

Of course :\ I have 2 questions. I HAVE SEEN topics on alternator whine but my first question may make my situation unique.

I recently noticed that the guy installed the power wire to the pos+ terminal in the ENGINE BAY. Why? Is there a reason? Could this contribute to the problem? I thought you go strait to the batt. Thatd make it way shorter too.

Second I also just noticed alt whine (changes pitch upon revving + stops when the engine is off or the rca's are unplugged.) Its very quiet but any ideas? Does the first question contribute?

thanks. Its very quiet but blah

it's a ground loops issue...the shortest/easiest circuit is the path the power takes...sometimes through another ground etc. i've got the same problem. There's a lot of different things that can cause it. just google ground loop issues and read up. other than that you can take the lazy way out and pick up some ground loop isolators at radio shack.

he probably didnt know what he was doing.

power wire doesnt really have as much to do with engine whine as youd think thou. I would check the ground for a good connection and possibly replace the rcas. Running the rcas away from the power wire also helps

agree'd...my issue ended up being a poor ground rather than the RCAs and power wire. just don't buy those POS unshielded rcas, make sure they're twisted pair.
