Alternator Positive Cable to Battery

Does anyone know what the stock wire gauge is for the positive lead from the alt to the batt on a 2007 LT? I'm at work so can;t run out and check, also though I'm sure one exists I've been having trouble finding a good how to for replacing it in the cobalt, if someone could point me in the right direction it's be appreciated, thanks in adv.

Are you running a seperate wire or are you going to take the stock wire out use only the higher guage. (piggy back or not)
How are you hooking it up to the alt? Its a harness on the Cobalts Alts right not a one wire style, is there a seperate post to hook the wire up to or do you hack the harness?

Where does the Fuse box come into to all of this, is it on the power line in the middle of the battery and alt or does it go alt to battery then to fuse box. If so do you redo the line that runs to the fuse bax as well?

Last question I swear, are you just using the same ground point for the alt (with a bigger wire) or is there a better place to ground it to, and what kinda of protection from water and dirt do you have to put on the terminals at the ends of the wire. example: Liquid electrical tape

well right now i have stock wire and a half ass run of 1/0... the stock goes to my amp dblock then to the battery and the 1/0 goes to the middle of the quarter panel dblock to 4g then to the amp dblock

so im running the 1/0 to the amp d block and the 4g to replace stock from the battery to the fusebox (or the other way around... i just thought of the first way but i'll have to think about which would be "better". I may get creative and do the stock alt to fusebox but probably not.

So it is alt to fuse box then to battery, and your not all that concerned with doing the alt to fuse just the fusebox to the battery?
That just confused me a little and I was the one writting it
I was thinking of doing a 2 gauge run this weekend while I have the use of a heated garage. (go hard or go home right)
Now could I just run a cable from the battery to the bottom of that jumper post in the fuse box and also leave the stock wires in place or do I have to disconnect the stock wires as well. And is the jumper post the correct place to run the wire to or is it under the fuse box where I have to hook it up

well ultimately I'm not too concerned with any of it. if i didn't **** up the stock wire (it wasn't long enough to begin with but i made it shorter) i probably wouldn't mess with it but right now what i have going on is pretty half ass and while it honestly would/should work forever since I'm only running highs amps off the stock battery I'm not one to leave anything half ass so whether or not i replace the alt wire has to to solely on how lazy i am/get

yes you can just run an additional run from the fusebox to the battery... infact i very much recommend it. the other "reason" i haven't pulled the stock wire is they ran it thru the firewall in a very inconvenient place to get to

Thanks
I picked up 20 feet of 1/0 guage street wires power wire yesterday.
I have the day off today so guess what I'm doing
Hopefully I'll have enough left after the battery to fuse box run to do the alt to block as well.

What size fuse do you think I should put on that wire. The stock one is not fused so I'm unsure what will be needed. 150amp ANL is what I had in mind but am unsure if its too big of a fuse
Thanks for the help I know I have been asking alot of questions about it but I just wanted to be sure before I started.

I realize that but whats the cutoff point for the electronics in the car.

For example, If I ran 0 guage to my Fosgate 1100a2 and put a 300 amp fuse it then it would fry the amp, since it has a recomended 150amp fuse so I was thinking more along the line of what size fuse so i don't fry the electronics in the car, not so I don't melt the wire down...God help me if I melt down 0 guage, I think if I did I would have to rethink my DIY aproach to car audio

You cannot simply replace this wire it must be a fuseable link

Yeah the guys at the shop told me not to fuse it either but I wanted to check it out first I think thier exact words were "Theres no fuse on the stock wire so why bother putting one on this"
Thanks

fyi don't try replacing the stock wire... just add the separate one in the big grommet that's easily accessible. i took out my stock power wire finally today and it was a bitch

Oh I figured it would be a pain in the ass, I had planed on just running the new ona along side of the old one.

There shouldn't be a problem if i leave the old one connected as well should there?
Or should I just dissconnect it and cap the ends, so to speak
