Amp keeps cutting out

Amp keeps cutting out

my question is this, when i have my volume and bass cranked up my amp cuts off and goes into protection. now i thought it was because i didnt have a capacitor so i went and bought a 1 farad rockford fosgate, now my headlights doesnt dim anymore but the amp still cuts out. is this because the amp may be to powerful for the subs so it goes into protection so it doesnt blow the subs or what? i have 12" JL W1s, the amp is some some brand i cant think of right now, its a 1000 watt 4 channel. thanks for readin and for the advice in advanced

no its not over heating, i alwayz have my back seats down when im in the car and the amp also has a fan. i mean the amp gets a little warm but not scorching hot

Either your wire is too thin, your gain is turned up to high or you have a bad ground.

For your setup I personally wouldn't use anything thinner than a 4 gauge wire.

I have a tendency of overdoing it though for reliability and safety.

i bet its wired improperly... what impendence are the subs and how do u have them hooked up?

Well for starters you are running a 4 channel for subs, not exactly what they were intended for. Second of all if you don't know what you are doing you should just let a professional do it. Like Emp said, it depends on what the rms power is at what ohm the amp is rated for and how the subs are wired, aka what ohm load you have them wired at

i'd check the ohm stability of the amp, and what ohm load the subs are. Then it could be because you got it bridged when it shouldnt be.......possibly. I was first thinkin heat, or bad ground....but these are all factors.

i know its wired correctly cause ive hooked up many systems and had no problems until now, i have 4 gauge power n ground and have it grounded to my seats under the little foam mat. the bolt that helps hold the seat in place.

Get a new amp.
The one you have obviously can't handle the power draw from your subs.
That being said I still agree with the other posts, it seems to be an impendence issue.
Either one would cause your amp to act like this

That's a bad ground, never ground things on seat bolts. Make your own ground by screwing straight into the chassis, but make sure you scrape some paint away first.

Had the same problem in my balt, wasnt a bad ground, or bad wireing, and it wasnt over heating. Rought it back to my installer, the fuse from the battery to the system got oxyegen inside it, he said. He threw the fuse out put a bigger nicer fuse in there, and ive been good ever since. Check your fuse buddy

a 4 channel amp isnt the best choice for subs... that amp you have is more for like speakers, such as 6x9s and what not...

either get a mono amp or 2 channel and bridge them...

he lied to u... im pretty sure a fuse isnt going to oxidize. break burn melt very much so but oxidize? mmm not really

Oh well whatever happened to the fuse i guess doesnt matter, maybe he did lie to me. But what happened was he replaced the fuse and it worked. good luck man

I have the same problem, only at high volumes. But the amp does not shut off the subs just stop playing so im guessing its going into protection. I THINK that these cars have a speaker saver system where if it senses too much power going to one speaker itll cut it out. Are you running a stock deck? If you are then this would make sense because im guessing you'll have wired your subs to your rear speakers. What i've done to fix it is move the fade to like three quarters front speakers then youll have more mid and high sounds with the bass not cutting out. I've tried everything this is the only thing that has worked.
