Amp question

Alright, when it comes to car audio I really don't know what I'm doing... I'm installing an amp and sub woofer, is there anything that needs to go between the amp and the power source from the battery or can it just be directly connected?

a good size fuse should be spliced in there. 100 amp was the last size i used in my formula.

Well I already have multiple fuses in my amp... is that good enough, or no?

they should always come with fuses in the amp, atleast thats what I have always used. But you still need an in-line fuse from the power supply to the amp, even if it has a couple of 30 A fuses on the side of the amp already.

just the RCA's that'll either hook up to an aftermarket stereo, or an inverter so you can hook it up to the factory stereo, the remote wire, and the ground wire. Ground wire should be of the same gauge as the power wire. other than that you should be good to go!

First off what kinda Watts are you pushing outta that amp. That depends on the size of the fuse you wanna have between the amp and battery. Ex. I have 2400 watts and I have a Stinger 250 fuse with Ot gauge wireing. so say you have about an 800 watt amp you wanna have about 6 or 8 gauge wire with about a 100 - 150 amp fuse

you should always try to at least match the fuses output on the amp. ex: if amp has two 30amp fuses, use at least a 60amp in-line fuse.

btw, do you have an aftermarket head unit?

Don't want to start anything... But I've always used the fuse size for how much the wire can handle.

Like a 4 gauge can handle 120 amps, so I'll probably put like an 100 amp fuse or something.

Hey guys one more quick question... I got it all wired up, but now I need to connect a lead to the 'remote turn on lead of the head unit' but I am using the stock head unit... does it even have one? lol... and if it does, how the hell do I find it?

If I have to, I'll just be lazy and put in a manual switch lol

1) buy a mini add a fuse and an extra mini fuse
2) pull out sunroof or wiper fuse from passenger side panel on center console
3) place mini add a fuse in either the sunroof or wiper fuse socket with the 2 fuses
4) crimp remote wire on the end of mini add a fuse
5) and your done

all i did was run a wire up to my fuse box found the radio fuse and put the wire in one the the fuse prong holes and then put the fuse back in so anytime the radio is on the amp is on ( i.e. when you turn the car off and take out the key and the radio is still on till you open the door, so you can still bump till you open the door)

same with the sunroof and wiper fuses. Only difference is your radio pulls more power then the wipers and usually peeps dont have sunroofs. So it makes sense to use them so you dont overload the radio fuse
