Amp/Sub Question

There's probabley enough of these but here is one more.

I have a 2010 Cobalt SS, and I want to put a different sub and amp in. I still want the stock amp to run the speakers. How would I wire in the new amp for the new sub? Would I be able to hook up the wires going to the stock sub to the new amp, or do I need to use the sub wires from before the stock amp? What do I all need to do?

I'm not to sure because my old car already had some of the hook ups, and that was 2 years ago I put the amp and sub in it, so I don't really remember what I all did. I miss the sound of my old sub.

im fairly positive the stock amp only powers the sub, and the HU powers the speakers....

to wire subs on the stock HU you would need a Line Out Converter from bestbuy since the stock HU does not have RCA outputs

Hi to low like brick said... Get the remote from the wiper fuse, run the wires/RCAs as normal.

I believe I saw a how to on this exact procedure if you wanna see exactly how it goes.

yup just leave the stock amp and speakers alone, use an LOC for rca signal, remote wired to the fusebox and power ground from the battery in the back

What does LOC stand for? Any specific spot in the fusebox that would work best?

LOC is line output converter. Basically you tap into the rear speaker wire and that's where you connect the RCA's to with that device. This thread may give you some more help.

Thank you. That post you linked to REALLY helped.
May be now I can install my amp and sub without worrying about anything. Except if my sub will fir in the stock sub box. It's a TIS Audio T510PK high performance sub and amp. I don't know if it will fit in the stock box. I hope it will. If not oh well. It says on the box there is a "high-input low-input converter included for easy install to your factory radio". Don't know what it is though.

If I was to do it this way, does that mean the stock sub would still be in use, and I would be able to have 2 subs? (probablry a stupid question, but I am just wondering).

Well for one thing I bought it 2 years ago, and you'd be surprised. That sub can pound. I only paid $100 for the combo from XS Cargo, so what ever I like it. I also wasn't asking anyone if my sub and amp was any good. I was just wondering if it would fit in the stock sub box. I did a comparison with the subs (same song), and my tis puts out more bass than the pioneer in the cobalt.

I was also thinking that if I install an amp and sub the way that was linked that I would be able to keep the stock sub going and have my other sub installed to.

I also don't remember asking if my sub and amp was good or not. I am the one that has, you guys don't so I know what it sounds like. Just becuase it's not alpine, jl audio, sony, or pioneer does not mean it's not a good sub.

Meh. Works fine for me. I'm thinking of keeping the stock sub in the car still, that way after I install my tis sub, there will be more of a range with both of the subs in the car. The tis seems to hit lower notes than the pioneer can. Maybe it's just me, but that's what it seemed like. Ither way I like my tis sub, so thats that.

I don't know anything about sub enclosers, so that's the way it's going to stay. Maybe if I knew something about them I could do something about but like I said I don't.
