Anyone running 55w in Mini h1 retro?
Anyone running 55w in Mini h1 retro?
Ive searched this 100x on hidplanet. Looking to see who runs 55w ballasts in a Mini h1 projector.
Consensus is that its not recommended but they dozens of people do it without issue. .
With that being said I think it would be fine to do with the way the cobalt reflector has some space between it and the back of the housing to let air get in, that really does affect the projectors temperature.
Anyways, to guys with retros, are you using 35w or 55w?

i ran a 55w kit from retro-solutions, which is advertised as a true 55w kit (bulbs, ballasts, harness). great crew, helped me out a ton with some issues and a ton of questions i had. i really had no issues that i could see with my mini's. light output was nice, obviously, and it didn't seem to be too bright as the only time i was flashed was at the top of the hill from a car coming up it.
from what i understand, the mini's are not designed to hold the heat from a 55w kit. the guys at retro solutions couldn't guarantee me that there wouldn't be any damage done, but because i was running a true 55w kit, the temps would be closer to a 35w kit, so i would be less likely to do damage.
i had a ballast short out on me (which they were able to fix free of charge, minus shipping) before the winter, and i've been running a ddm ballast with the 55w bulbs since. not sure if i'm going to look into a morimotto hid kit, or throw the 55w ballasts back in and hope for the best.

lol i dunno if i can!
i've run a 55w kit. it worked. as far as damage goes in the projector, i don't know. my headlights are fogging like crazy and i plan to fix them at some point. i'll find out how the projector looks then and see if it did do any damage.
better? i hope so. lol.

Many people have seen the chrome on the minis bubble and flake when running a 55w setup, te minis can't handle the added heat and uv rays. It's one of those things were it just doesn't seem to be worth the risk, it's just going to increase the mini's problem of too much foreground light and not enough light in the distance.
