I'm about to pick this one up... just not sure if 5 meters is gonna cut it, and I don't want to pay 2 times the price for the 6 meter cable.
Amazon.com: Monster MPC I306 6C-5M Extra Low Noise 6-Channel Car Stereo RCA Cables (5 meters): Electronics
I've been working mostly on the Jetta. Got the Sony HU in, and it's great. No regrets about getting that. even made the walmart special Pioneers that are in it sound decent (or at least better than they sounded with the cheapo Pioneer HU that was in there). The Ipod tune tray is the ****! To bad they don't make a 2 DIN version for the Cobalt.
Now I'm having headaches with 6 3/4" speaker adapters for the Jetta. The Morel's are advertised as 6 1/2" speakers, but I guess they're truly 6 3/4". They don't fit in the adapters I bought, so now I have to buy adapters for the adapters.
Oddly enough, 6 3/4" speakers are a perfect fit for the factory mount, but the Morels are too deep.

I already ran all the wiring for the Jetta. I had one of those exact signal cables laying around. I think it was the 6 meter version. I ran that in the Jetta a few days ago, and came up with about a meter to spare, but there's no way I'm pulling that cable back out to swap it.
I ended up finding a good deal on a 10w7 in a Prowedge box. So I picked that up for the Cobalt. To each his own, but I've yet to hear a sub the could hang with the W7s, and I've heard a lot... including the ones in that youtube video

to each his own bro. but i will say demoing my car prevented a lot of w7 sales here in town. while my setup might be "special" its IMO way cleaner then any w7 and while its not quite full potential now back when it was... well lets just say it was plenty loud
I have no doubt that your setup is awesome. For God's sake, I saw the amount of detail you went into just with the sound deadening (that was your thread I saw, wasn't it?).
I'm just saying, I've heard most of the popular, lesser known subs, and there was only one that I was impressed with, and, to me, rivaled the W7... but it was, for all practical purposes, unobtainable. I can't even remember the name of it now, but I want to say it started with a T.
It's not that I like the price of JL stuff (in fact, I usually get it on ebay for a very competitive price).
I've had a lot of people try to push me towards brands like Treo, Soundstream, DD, etc. But I just haven't ever been impressed with them. Some were loud, some had great sound, but none seemed to have both to me.
Maybe I'll have to drop by and hear your setup when I finally make my voyage to San Diego

Had myself stumped... so I had to find it. This is the other one I really liked. A few years ago, it was virtually impossible to buy, unless you knew a guy who knew a guy. Now I'm surprised to find it for sale. I would have bought this instead of my 8W7 if I had seen it. Oh well.

ya that link i posted was most of the stuff ive done to my car. sadly most of the begenning pics i took got lost between a server crash and comp crash and those would have been most helpful for peeps not going crazy on dampening. but it its what it is right?
lol i agree with you on the unobtainable deal. When i got mine they were not only discontinued but also in a somewhat high demand. i probably paid much more then i should have but i got what i wanted. after having these subs idk what else i would want to have if anything ever happened. Everyone has their own personal taste and mine just isnt the w7. Most people either love or hate them and alot of the haters are due to price. The w7 has a very unique sound and i just personally do not like it at all.

It does have a very unique sound... I just happen to love it. I wish my tastes were cheaper.
Kinda pissed that I found that TC 8 after I bought all my stuff.
There was a point when I refused to buy JL because it was overpriced... but in terms of reliability, consistency, and performance... I've come to believe that it's worth the premium.
When I was 20, I didn't mind testing out 8 different setups, and ripping everything apart 5 times before it worked like I wanted, but I'm getting older, and these days, I just like to throw things together and have them work right. And keep working right. JL fills that bill nicely.

Just an update...
The system in my Jetta has been complete for about a month. Everything worked great except the sub channel on the HD900/5. It was very loud and clear for the mids and highs, but the sub channel was weaker than it should have been at it's best (didn't even drive the 8W7 hard), and almost inaudible at it's worst. After tinkering with it a lot... a new amp is on the way from Crutchfield.
I just got all the hardware in today for the Cobalt, and my buddy will be digging into it next week to get it all installed. I don't feel like doing any more installing after doing the system and dynamatting the Jetta...
I ended up going with 2 amps for the Cobalt, an HD600/4 and an HD750/1. I used an Axxera 2 DIN HU. Once again, not a brand I would normally buy from, but I liked it's features better than any other double din offering, and it was only $220. Hopefully, I'll have no more problems with the HD amps.
I'll update with pics of both when they're done. I ended up mounting the Jetta's 8W7 in the rear deck to get a little more thump out of it. Pretty clean.
