Auto-Dim feature (Illumination wire on head unit)
I've been searching all night for a place to wire up my illumination on my 06 SS/SC for my x920BT as the nav is SO bright at night and the stock radio apparantly uses data to do it.
Anyways, from what I've found I need a 12V that get's hot when the headlights turn on so here is what I've found.
A while back I hooked up an iSimple. I won't lie, it was pretty half assed and I had quickly tied it into the DIC. (One of the worst things I've done, pretty shabby). But this stupid thing would ONLY work at night (Took me a while to figure out that pattern. It would work in my garage then not when I got to the end of the block when my headlights turned off).
So, remembering that when I had it hooked up it did this I went hunting with a multimeter and found the gray wire on the DIC (very left) is used to auto dim it when the headlights turn on and gets hot when the lights are on. So I'm going to test out my head unit with the illumination tapped into it and hopefully it works! I don't see why it won't. I'll let you guys know what ends up happening.
Sorry if this has been posted and I missed it (somehow) in a million searches.
Also, if someone knows that this is going to blow my **** up and that's why nobody does it. Please post before tommorow morning

Man looks like you had some troubles there, I have a couple lights on my doors that don't work either. I'd also love to change the color of them.
So for anyone who is reading this, it worked perfectly. Tied in to the grey line, as soon as my headlights come on, the display goes into night mode and as soon as my headlights go off/dash lights go back to normal it goes right back into day mode. DIC works like nothing is going on.
Awesome
