When I put an aftermarket one in my cavy, cougar, newer cavy, and my boss's suburban, there is a plastic piece in the back that holds the stock radio flush. The stock radio is much bigger but not in depth, but height and length.

Grab some pliars or tin snips and looks towards the back to see if there is any plastic in the way that could be blocking the radio.

there is plastic but behind the plastic is a horizontal piece of metal, looks like some sort of support i think

Ive got the exact same problem as you. My 2 din system wont go in. My instaler said its 1. the main airflow vent and 2. that beam looking thing is supposed to be the dash support.

So now its sticking out about 1/2 an inch He also said that only the base models have that problem

well i ended up shoving it in there and you have to put it in lower, then slide it up to align the screw holes.

push in , then slide up....kinda the same way you would have to put the stock on back in

and that will work. still a huge pita through
