ill take some better pics this was at 4 am. the rockford is the 800.4 the sub is being pushed by right around 4400 watt rms. the box was put in by building the sides then fiberglassing the trunk to the box then on goes the top with the sub

Granted thats alot, that shitty sub needs all that power to move at all. Stop trying to act like your the biggest and baddest out there because you just sound like a ******* boasting about a retarted setup.

he only has one 18 plus the response on the 12s will be better then the response on the 18s your moving more mass with the 18 then you are with the 12s theres an actuall program that will show you the amount of air you are moving. and you right at 120 the sound of the bass doesnt matter but at the lower volumes it does. also if your like me you like to here it on the outside of the car.
also if your like me you tend to get use to the higher db sounds the last car i worked on had 3 jlw6v2s with 1 high capacity amp and some focal components up front and in the back with a high compacity 4ch amp running those. Trust me that probably went way past 120db and damn i got use to it

If it was round it would be 9" x 9" x 3.14159 = 254.46879 square inches.
Did you not catch that part?
Besides, you would still be moving more mass with just one 18" round sub than two 12" round subs, and that's how you obtain higher SPL.
E.G. A 12" sub with 200 watts fed to it will put out more SPL than an 8" with the same 200 watts, all else being equal.
The reason I mentioned 120 dB is because it's obvious that anyone who's using an 18" square sub usually isn't interested in SQ. They'd more than likely be interested in SPL. 120 dB was just a number I picked out of thin air.
Also, no. I don't like to hear my stereo on the outside of my car. I like to be sitting in my car when the stereo is on. The imaging sucks when I'm outside of the car.

Now one kicker 18 in sub which cost 1600 roughly with 5000wrms has a diameter of 16.77 will put out 48in(cubed) of volume displacement, with max excersion being .22 in and a impressive surface diameter of 221inchs sqaured(because its not a circle its a square). Also the response is a little low becuase of the huge amount of surface space.
Now a 2 jl w6v2 12s will cost you 1000 roughly 800 rms with a diameter of 9.95 per sub will put out 101 in(cubed) of volume displacement with a max excersion of .65 and a surface diameter of 155.6 inchs squared. Now lets take one sub and find out the surface area of that shall we? Thats 77.8in now because you have a lower surface area your going to have a faster response. times that by two and you will get more space being moved at a faster rate then that 18in SQUARE sub will do.
This is a comparison mainly for the VOLUME DISPLACEMENT.
Now back for to the fun My sub
will put out
6000rms
has a diameter of 18ins
surface area of 254.5 inchs squared
xmax of 2.4 in and will displace 610.7 inchs (cubed)

Your also right the imaging does suck on the outside but when your hanging out with friends in a parking lot blasting your music who cares. Some people also like having a little bet of extra in it just in case. Its kinda like horse power who the hell needs 500 whp when half the time your only going to use half of that or 1/4th of that? Because when the chance arises you want to have that 500 whp at your foot. same thing with having a Highly powered sub. I am all for clarity havent you seen the setup im going with let me find the link and ill post it.

He gets 4400 wRMS with the HK802SX. It runs the amp at 1 ohm because the the sub has 2ohm DVC bridging it down to 1 ohm.
MA Audio HK-802SX 4400W 2 Channel High Current Amplifier
Features:
2 x 500W RMS @ 4 Ohm Stereo
2 x 800W RMS @ 2 Ohm Stereo
2 x 1400W RMS @ 1 Ohm Stereo
2 x 2200W RMS @ 0.5 Ohm Stereo
1 x 4400W RMS @ 1 Ohm Bridged
Dimensions (H x W x L): 2.7”x 12.4”x 27.3”
Also about the surface area
This is correct. 18x18 is the surface area of a square, while (Pi x R^2) or 6x6x3.14 is the surface area of a circle...but it should really be 6.5 because the w7 is a 13" sub not a 12. That brings the surface area of the 13's to 265.464355 a little more than the single 18.
It is also not correct to assume that a larger sub has a slower responce time than a small sub. That is just not true. Most people assume this, but I could build a paper sub that is 20" and it would have a better responce than a 8" sub that has the cone made of forged steel. (I know this isn't a RL comparison it is just for example of why this is not a correct assumption.) There is alot that goes into a subs responce time. I am not going to sit here and pretend like I know it all but I do know that size is not the only factor. Air space of the sub's enclosure makes for better or worse responce....
