Broke the antenna...

So, a sponsor on MIFbody was selling some shorty antennas, and he had test fitted one on his brother's Cobalt, and it fit great, so I figured I was game as well.

Well, I decided I wanted to test fit it before buying, so we went to go take my stock antenna off...oh boy did that open a can of worms...

First, we didn't realize it was a reverse thread, and turned it the wrong way at first...and I guess we broke the stupid cheesy welds or rivets or whatever holds the antenna base to the body...I think we probably would've had we turned it the right way, it was on there so tight...

...well, got the stock antenna out and went to put the shorty on and it DIDN'T FIT. For some reason my Antenna thread was a bit bigger than the antenna I bought (that fit on a Cobalt)...

Basically, now my antenna just wobbles around everywhere...anyone else run into this?

I'm gonna try and zip tie it to the bracket to stop if from wobbling everywhere, just wondering if someone accidentally broke this (or ran into the thread being abnormally large)....

Ohhh, okay. He must've tested it on a pre'07 Cobalt, then.

Anyone happen to know the thread size? I'm gonna drill and tap it out.

Same thing happened to me but my stock antenna was seized. I tried using a vice grip to take it off and it just broke the bracket in side.

Okay - so it's not just me, it's a cheesy design.

Anyone have an exact spec on the thread before I go drilling and tapping this antenna?

How did those that broke it fix it?

It looks like the base/bracket it like $20 from GMPD...

...since the '05 uses a 6mm thread (I presume), could I potentially just buy that bracket/base and have everything line up, except the fact that it has a different thread?

Or was GM retarded and moved the bracket mounts or antenna hole...

at least you did do like I did. I broke the entire stud off of mine last weekend tryin to get that god damn ark shorty off cuz the signal was ****. Well now I have no antenna at all and you can imagine what the signal is like now. You should be able to get the stuff for an 06 thou and not have to tap the new antenna. If nothin else hit up eBay for a 7mm tap. I got a 6mm tap off there last year

Well, I looked up on GMPD and it said 06-08 for one antenna base and 2005 for the other...

So, I can buy a 2005 Antenna bracket (I presume that comes with the base?) and it'll fit?

#2

Does that include what I broke?

the same exact thing happened to me. i ended up pressing the bracket back onto the antenna, then drilling and tapping a hole in the antenna base, finally i bought a mm size screw and put it in.

Yea #2 is all you'll need. Get it for the 05 model and you won't need to retap the shorty antenna you have

They said it's discontinued or something...I wouldn't think GM would discontinue something that new...
