CB Radio
CB Radio
Does anyone have a CB in their cobalt? Pics of where its mounted and antenna.
I know..Cb radios and cobalts dont match, but I drive highway to work everyday, and this could come in handy. Plus, it gives me an opportunity to say "breaker breaker 1-9", on a consistent basis.
I will have one in my car before summer, but I just want to see what it looks like mounted, if anyone has been brave and redneck enough to do it yet.

i've actually thought about this too. cause we drive to a lake about 3 hours northeast of toronto every summer and whle we're on the highway all the truckers have them, and its just kind of a courtesy thing to point out troopers and ****. and you can get feedback from someone about whats going on up ahead if people start to stop suddenly, how contruction sites are traffic wise, **** like that. if you drive cross country or spend lots of time on the highway you'll know what i'm talkin about.
but, mounting wise, i was going to take off the driver mirror and mount in to the headliner with some custom brackets or something, since its all one unit and has nothing to do with the radio it wouldn't be too hard to do

I had one in the G5. Barely used it.
A police scanner is more useful these days. Though whether or not you can drive with one depends on your state laws (Some places ban them in vehicles entirely, others only while using it to commit a crime), and whether or not your area uses unencrypted frequencies. My area is old fashioned, they all just use analog radios, so I can use a cheap-o uniden scanner and get just about everyone. Other places use either trunking radios, or even more expensive: Digital. Digital is probably the worst since those can be encrypted, and breaking the encryption can lead to some major problems for you. As far as CB, it was once commonly used by LEO's, but it has heavily fallen out of favor. Every so often a LEO might have one to listen in on the truckers, but they certainly don't use it for primary police transmissions.
Edit: Just a note I forgot about: A regular handheld scanner can pickup CB. It would lock on whenever I would key up my CB mic.

can't forget about all the stories that the truckers have. my dad's a trucker and my grandfather was a trucker right up till the day he died. i remember my dad having to turn the CB off because my step mom thought they were getting a little descriptive in their stories lol.
