CD player installation help needed

I'm installing a basic Jensen deck in my brother's 2001 V6 Mustang. Amongst a slew of problems blowing dash fuses, the deck will not work. I fixed all the fuses, and got them to work again, but the cd player will not fully power on. It sits in standby, and when you press a button to turn it on, it turns off, and goes into standby. The clock goes back to 12:00, too. I got it to turn on using a fuse wrapped with a wire, but that's when the other fuses blew.

I checked the wires with a testlight beforehand. The 12v aux. power from the factory harness didn't put out voltage, so I set out to hunt for a better input. I do not want to piggy back into the fuse box. I need to find a permanent aux power. Where do I find a good switched 12v source?

Thanks so much, I'm ripping my hair out over this install.

sounds like instead of having the constant 12v wire hooked to a constant 12v you have it hooked to a switched 12v

The wires for the install will all be there in the stock radios connector, why are you looking else where.
Search the internet for the pinout to install it properly.

Better yet get some help rom someone that knows what there doing.

Also never bypass the fuses,I hope you learned your lesson !

It's plugged from the HU adapter to a factory harness. I connected the wires, yellow to yellow. The wires are both labeled constant 12v. I'm wondering if the harness adapter we got is defective.

The 12v accessory wire does not work. In my post I said that I tested it and it did not put out any voltage. Now I need a new source.
Worst case, I can splice the factory wires before the harness, but I would like to avoid this.

And yes, I did learn my lesson. I hooked it through a fuse to see if the subwoofer/amp installation worked. I blew some fuses, I was an idiot, now I want to get this working and move on.

A lot of those harnesses are made for the "general" model of a vehicle. Meaning they tested a 98 suburban and a 2004 suburban and both work so 98-04 harness. However it's possible like our radio's the pin-outs changed just slightly.

so I guess I should tap the power and 12v accessory from behind the harness....

Have you ever wired a suburban? Go hook up a radio to a suburban and tell me they don't change.

yes i have wired up a suburbun but i also know gm makes 4 different harnesses that all have the same "plug" so the issue isn't you have to re pin it the issue is you have to get the right one going to walmart doesnt really work

if the acc is fried for whatever reason and its not a fuse i would just re run a new one to the fuse box

Thanks for everyone's help, I figured it out today. I spent hours probing wires with the car on and off. It turned out to be a faulty harness. I thought specifying the make, model, year, engine type, and non-MACH sound system would clue the guys at the store to the right harness. They sold me the wrong one. Once again, thanks for the advice.
