In-Dash install ?'s

Hey guys I'm thinking about installing a Pioneer 7in In-dash in my 06 SS/SC. Just wondering about how hard it is to do so? Also wondering where I should look for an in-dash kit. Really would like to do it myself so I don't get raped by taking it somewhere..lol Thanks alot

it's pretty easy to do, the unit just bolts into the dash kit and the dash kit bolts in like the standard radio. The worst part is splicing all the wires for the harness together, which is just color matching and crimping wires. It's pretty easy, it only took me an hour or so do to mine.

Oh okay. Did you do the electronics that let you be able to use the steering wheel controls?

You may have to cut the metal pieces behind the stock radio, all depends on how deep your in dash is. Your best bet is to call crutchfield and talk to someone. They will get you set up with the right harness, as well as your dash kit.

oh ya I forgot about that part, just had to cut some plastic, all I used were some wire cutters.

Let me know what harness you end up getting.

I wanna install my own in dash, but having some trouble getting the right stuff together.

Do you have OnStar equipped?

In my personal experience when installing my Double-Din Pioneer, the metal bracket behind the radio can be taken out without cutting it. There's (2) 7MM screws holding it on the left, and (1) on the right. Take out both left screws with a 3/8" ratchet and a small 7MM socket, and pull it towards you while bending it, and you can get to the right.

I was able to do it this way so I could retain the fitting for the stock radio so that it wouldn't fall in the back, should I ever get rid of the car.

Also, solder the harness. Mine almost fried from the crappy butt connecters I bought, so I soldered it and never looked back.

it's not bad, I did mine with the steering wheel controls. Haven't added in Onstar or XM yet though.

Yea im not too worried about onstar (I dont have it anyways, but I could care less if I did). I just ordered the Pioneer 4300 or something like that. Got a few parts coming from crutchfield including the actual dash piece for the double din

crutch field gives you free install kits if you order you radio from them and instructions on how to take the dash pieces off. and yes you will need to take the metal bar out if you are planning on installing an amp or 2.
