In Dash Ipad
He Guys, just saw some youtube videos of people fabbing their dash so that it turns into an in dash ipad screen. This would be much better than any other doubledin stereo and i am currently strongly considering it. It would have music, nav, video along with all other ipad apps. My only question is would there be a way to set up a dvd player to it so that it could play dvds/cds. If this all works out well i think i am going to try my best to fabricate the first ever cobalt in dash ipad.

hmmm that is a very cool idea, given what the ipad comes with! unless it has an input though (which i have no idea of) then i don't think dvds are an option. however, can't u put dvds into itunes to have it play anyway? or, better yet, use netflix or something?
my only other concern is, where the hell would u fabricate an ipad into? probly not the stock headunit place because then you can't hear anything you're doing with the ipad, so the only good spot might be... above your central ac vents??

My concern is obviously you would want to keep the iPad fully charged at all time, so you'd probably plug it via a cig lighter with a USB female connector. Wouldn't that slowly kill your battery?

Sorry for taking your idea bro. I had no idea anybody on this site had attempted it so lets say i will be the second to attempt it. I'm not sure how it would fit. to be honest i don't even have an ipad but i will be out to get one tonight if i think i can make this work. my center dash piece doesn't have the airbag piece or heated seats so i can fab right into the middle piece. maybe from above the double din opening all the way down to the top of the hvac controls. Will it be to wide though? i will break out the measuring tape later. If it is going to fit well i will buy a center trim piece and start modifying it immedietly.
edit: Just measured everything up. it will fit horizontally just above the hvac controls, all the way up just below the ac vents. I will paint my trim black so that everything blends in once its done.

Www.mp3car.com your new friend.
I went the carpc route as I believe it appears more stock-like and would be less prone to theft.

more importantly pc> apple but if you wanna do it go for it. just dont expect it to be easy.... and be prepared for complete bullshit. you have to be willing to see it thru before you start if not you going to waste alot of money.
just be aware that a car pc would be cheaper with more functionality and as billit bt posted you can almost get it to giggle your ***** if you want to (or at least say it)

its a pc connected to a monitor yes but its built specifically for a car. its not a tower by any means and you can either buy one premade and somewhat customize it to your liking or build you own
