do i have it too high?

I have a kicker cv10 thats supposed to be rated at 400watts rms and a kicker zx300.1 amp thats at about 340 rms according to the guaranteed seal on the box i got it out of. I recently turned the gain all the way up on the amp and the bass remote and i turn it up and down on my headunit as i see fit based on the songs playing... will this damage anything in the long run or do i need to turn it down?

tuning the amp like so isnt the best idea. Any sub can be blown with a clipped signal

well your amp is 340 continious watts, im no expert but turning it up all the way is probably putting out more than 340

i probably would. Look to see how much the speaker is moving.

one of the best ways to tune the amp if you use the bass knob is to turn it all the way up and play a song that you know is "loud" adjust the gain accordingly and check speaker movement. If it sounds distorted then its clipping so turn down the gain, if its moving too much like its going to jump out of the box persay then turn it down as well. be smart about it and you wont blow the speaker, crank all the settings and the sub will blow eventually
