thats a big chunk of door he's cut out, but he'll have a good amount of sealed air volume in the pod for good midbass responce.

I want to do some pods, but was thinking much smaller for a single 6.5. Maybe cutting out the speaker grill on the door to extend the pod into for volume. I like the idea of a sealed solution. On top of cleaning up the sound, I'd imagine it cuts down on door vibrations since the back of the cone isn't spraying energy into the door interior. Sofar the most I've done is tweeter pods.

Is the blue interior closer matched? because the Red on my seats is pretty different from the red on the doors.

I was thinking of doing something like this myself but had a few questions.
Are you still running speakers in your deck lid?
My problem is that even with all the dynamat my deck lid still gets tossed around by the bass, so I wanted to move all my speakers into the front doors (podded) and then run two 3 1/2's in the back pillar to even out the sound. With my deck lid free I could run two "ports" in the stock 6x9 locations to allow the air to a) have some place to escape, droping the preasure that is pushing on the decklid and b) channeling the air into the cab of the car allowing it to bounce off the back window and come forward.
Is this feasable?
Should I maybe redo the decklid in wood or fiberglass?

The only concern that i would have is by porting the rear decklid, your going to hear a lot more road noise coming from the back of the cabin...

.. common solution, turn the radio up.

ya the stock blue matches well. not sure why the red would be different. But ya the pod is huge. Then again its going to have 2 speakers a 7" midrange and 8" midbass so there wasn't smaller we could go. With the selling of my giant amp Ive ordered the remaining supplies to complete the pods and also some second skin lux liner pro/over kill. Those 7" can get loud so the LLP will cut down on that alot along with help road noise. Main reason for all that is the 7s will be ran IB with the 8 being sealed. Id rather have them both sealed and i have the space to do it but response wise the 7s sound alot better IB. Midbass isnt great but they will be crossed high anyway

Your running into alot of issues and the best thing to do is remake the stock deck lid with actual wood. Sadly my car is prepped for 6" ports threw the rear deck but i went sealed instead. Its a good idea and after not doing it in my car my friend went ahead and did 4" threw his wife's trecel (6 re 8") and they sounded awesome.

If your not looking at porting threw the rear deck you can always throw a few layers of FG on the back to stiffen it up some. Problem is getting it back in the car

Gotcha

I've heard the best mounting for pods is to bolt them directly to the door frame, but could never think of a good way to do that while keeping everything air tight.

BTW- I have so much dynamat in the trunk its the quietest place in the car, the only thing I can hear from back there is the fan on the Xtant kick in and out

where do you get your stuff? The little projects Ive done sofar I just use the crap from autozone. I'm sure its not the good epoxy resin stuff.

nah bondo brand stuff is polyester which is perfect for fiberglass anyway (most resin is the same other then the fact its epoxy or poly) epoxy is the expensive stuff used for clear projects like carbon fiber. Thats what i ordered along with some heavier fiberglass. I wasnt really sure what to expect on the glass but its pretty much the same except for a finer weave for more glass in a smaller area. I was almost hoping it would be "thicker" (although i only ordered the 3oz stuff which is the lowest they make)

So i should begin some work on sunday. I see the light at the end of the tunnel

FYI as an update 90% of the rest of the pod work has been done in the past 2 days.

Speaker rings were built on sunday
Tuesday rings were mounted and pod was wrapped/ first layer of resin
Wed 3 layers of fiberglass were laid using poly resin along with the Carbon/Kevlar and the first layer of epoxy resin.

all that's left is lots of sanding/finishing, 2 more layers of epoxy along with the Second Skin LLP on the passenger side
