g5 speedo in a cobalt

so i got the gauge plactic of a g5 pontiac to put in my cobalt speedo only to realize that it went to 140 not 120 (oops) is there a way to reflash it or anything so i dont have to buy the whole cluster? i think its stupid that the cars are the same and gm put an extra 20 mph on the pontiac one...they never go above 110

Nope. Its controlled by the cluster. So stick with stock or go find the whole cluster.

A new cluster isn't that much, I got a SS/SC cluster for $70 shipped a few years ago.

The cobalt LT has the white 140mph speedo? I think they have the black 120 one.
Cobalt ss/na has the white 140

You don't have to reflash anything. The cluster will read right even if your changing from 120 mph to the SS 160. It calibrates itself. Put the new one in and drive away, no flashing, no reprogramming, your speed will be what the gauges read.

What this guy said. I swapped to a 160mph from a 140mph and it works perfectly with no reflash. As long as they are similar years it will work well. Otherwise you might lose some DIC functions.

That may not be the case; for similar years i mean. I put a 05 SS/Sc cluster in my 2008 GT. Everything works 100%, even added the menus for tire pressures. Just doesnt have the TPMS light in the centre thats all.
but just to be safe its probably better to get one from the same year.

You guys aren't reading him right, he only has the face, not the whole cluster... Like if you get a custom one from black cat customs or something.

Oops just skimmed this. Since thats the case I'm not even sure if it would work with a reflash. But 140moh clusters can be had for 50 shipped. So just get a whole cluster.

The LS's with 112mph rated tires have a limiter at 107, LT's have the limiter in the 1teen's, IDK about SSNA's and SS2.0's had the limiter set at 155.

The Pontiac cluster itself lights up red, the chevy ones are more white IIRC.

as said above, you need the whole cluster. 05 adn 06 ineterchange, and 07+ interchange. if you put an 07 cluster in an 06 the dic will not work, and vice versa.

My 06 LS only goes to 107 unless I use cruise control and I can slowly tap it up to 128... well that is as high as I got it before I had to slow back down.
