IF You Have Onstar And Wish To Retain It When Installing An Aftermarket Headunit You Must Use The Metra Part Number 99-3303.

Ok... so I said screw buyin the billion dollars worth or harness crap and got just the simplw wiring harness. I have everything hooked up as it should be, but I have no sound to my speakers. I have searched the hell out of a couple forums with no luck. I called Best Buy's intall bay and he asked if the blue wire with the white strip was plugged in, and I said yeah... so he was like... it should work... if not we will look at it for you for 50 bucks. Well... I have never had anyone install anything for me but me and I don't plan on starting. I just need some info that someone here might have.

Any ideas?!?!?!?!

Repin your speaker wires, I got the wiring layout for the factory harness and using Ground(Black) on the aftermarket harness as a reference found my speaker pins were all in the wrong places. Here is the wiring layout for the stock harness:

Radio 12v red/white + radio harness
Radio Ground black/white - radio harness
Radio Ignition (GMLAN Serial Data)
Radio Illumination gray (dimmer) + radio harness
Factory Amp Turn-on same as power antenna wire
Power Antenna pink + radio harness
LF Speaker +/- tan - gray +,- radio harness or amplifier
Notes: If equipped, the amplifier is in the driver side rear quarter panel.
RF Speaker +/- lt. green - dk. green +,- radio harness or amplifier
LR Speaker +/- brown - yellow +,- radio harness or amplifier
RR Speaker +/- dk. blue - lt. blue +,- radio harness or amplifier

It sounds like you do have the switch wire figured out as you have power. So all you need to do is Repin your harness.

More Info

hey man

just had a few questions to ask you real quick. What was involved w/ you putting your aftermarket headunit into your Cobalt?

I have read some different things and I have seen mixed information on this topic. I saw something that said you need a special wire harness to use w/ your headunit, it's Metra XSVI-2103

I've got a 06 ls cobalt also so I was just curious if you could fill me in on what it took to do this.

Thanks for your time!

Will the factory sub and everything work fluently in my Cobalt with the Pioneer option if I got a headunit? Aftermarket will alays sound better, but I also want an aux jack for my new Zune. lol. Eff FM adaptors. Eff em to hell. I have no problem with buying adaptors and stuff as long as it'll work. Thanks!

Bah. Well, are my only options for an MP3 player a tape adaptor and an FM transmitter? could you hard wire anything or wouldn't it work because it's not made for anything like that?

So there's no issues? All I'd need is the din adaptor, the wiring harness, the harness for the steering wheel controls, and the radio??

I also have an 06 cobalt ls.....i think it might also have to do with what sound system you have factory...like i have base cd player not the mp3...the peice i priced to fool the computer is around 130 bucks, but i was lucky and had a dumb computer and everything went nicley......but one question there are a few wires i have no idea what they are used for....for instance there is 2 constant powers on my wiring kit and only one works...it's odd

I've got a question and can't seem to find the answer anywhere. Hopefully someone on here has done this.

I recently bought an Alpine Screen, single din size. This is NOT a CD/MP3/DVD combo.

I also bought a CD/MP3/DVD player thats single din so i can now play dvd's through it on my Alpine screen. I'm having a hell of a tough time finding the pieces i need to make it work, can someone please point me in the right direction.

hmm sounds alot like what i will be doing... post up or pm me some the model number on the screen only....

most likely there is a brain to the screen but it may also be built in so depending on that the installation will be completely different

Alpine CVA-1003, would it matter what modle number it is, they would use the same mounting kit right? i just don't know where i can find one that will support two single din units...

oh my bad i completely forgot about this... THe reason i wanted the model number is so i can see the specifics on hooking it up. IMHO you are not going to find a kit for 2 din units your best bet is to get the single din and modding it to fit the screen (you will probably need to cut a lil bit of that dash piece as well)

but hey after lookign up that model number it looks like a single din with a flip out screen... if thats right then you would just hook it up like a regular cd player

it is a single din unit, it is motorized as well, i have a mp3/cd/dvd player that is also a single din to go with it. I'm probally going to have to take it to future shop or something and have them rape me on the install...

Exactly.

I have a 1 din Alpine Motorized screen. It has NO CD player, or DVD player.

I have a 1 din Deck, that plays CD/MP3/DVD's- i'm using this to play stuff for the alpine

I have a 2600 watt 2 channel amplifer

I have 2 10" Bazooka subs at 450 rms x2.
